Hi, https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Installation is outdated and needs to be adjusted for Leap 15.0. Fine, we can get that done. There are translated versions of it however that are horribly outdated. What to do with those? Just delete? cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org

In Wikipedia, they will add a big red alert box on top of the page. Tell something like: "This page is outdated and need update. Please read English wiki for latest information." It can tell readers where can get correct information and editors how to update the page. Ludwig Nussel <ludwig.nussel@suse.de> 于2018年6月18日周一 上午11:22写道:

Does one need to do that manually? I'd assume that the wiki engine can actually detect if the English ie master version changed so the translations need to be checked? Ie just like gettext marks strings as fuzzy? cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org

As far as I know, MediaWiki core doesn't have this functionality. But we can do it with a bot script: 1. Make a list of pages that you want to watch. 2. Check reversion date every month. 3. If the page is outdated, (six month older than English wiki) put an Update message template on top of page. 4. You can also force to add outdated template when important update published. if they are watching the page, they will receive a email notification. Active editors usually watch these pages they have created or edited. Ludwig Nussel <ludwig.nussel@suse.de> 于 2018年6月18日周一 12:54写道:

Let's try that then. Can you also add a delete option? So the the tool would - put a message on outdated pages with a configurable grace period - (optionally) delete pages that got the message and despite another grace period still didn't get updated. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org

I see problems with the "outdated if older than the English version" approach: ─ A modification in an English page may be just a typo correction or a layout change that may not necessary in other wikis. ─ A non-English wiki may have a different strategy to keep a page updated. For example, in the Spanish wiki macros are used a lot to keep pages like the links to repositories automatically updated just using a macro for the openSUSE version in the links. This kind of pages seldom need maintenance. ─ Non-English pages doesn't have to be clones of the English page. They may be simplified versions of the English page because the number of contributors is very low and they're simpler to maintain. So the simplified version may be useful for a longer period than the original, especially if combined with macros. ─ Non-English wikis may have pages not present in the English wiki. Someone have to check them manually to see whether they're outdated or not. Greetings.
For your first question: maybe we can add a button "request update in other languages" to manually add out-dated warnings in other wikis. It should only be clicked when the editor thinks an important change has been made. Out-dated pages will show a message like "Page in English has been updated on 2018/06/28. Please help updating this page." For your second question: we can configure which language uses the script. For your third question: we can remove the interwiki link if they are not translations/clones. For your fourth question: they will not be touched because here is no interwiki links. -- 郭云鹤/Guo Yunhe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org

It would be worth pinging the translation list if it hasn't already been mentioned first, and moving the pages to the archive is better then deleting them because it gives someone a starting point should they decide to pick it up in the future. Traditionally the translation list is about translating software, not the wiki - although some of the people might be in both teams. IMO it is better to tag outdated than move. Better have an outdated page that nothing, and a person that later looks for things to do might not see that such a page exists in the archive. For moving you need to be able to read the language to judge, so this is a thing better left to the local teams. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.3 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

You get a warning when trying to re-create a previously deleted one. Note that restoring deleted pages (and viewing their previous content) can only be done by wiki admins. Only a few people have these permissions. IMHO adding a warning like "page is outdated, see en.o.o/$page for the latest version" makes most sense. This will preserve the content at the right place, and still make it clear that it's recommended at the english version. Moving a page to Archive: isn't a good idea IMHO - people will still find it there [1] and ignore that it has "Archive:" in its page title ;-) Regards, Christian Boltz [1] The "Archive" namespace gets rated down in the wiki-internal search, but google doesn't know or care about this and will happily list Archive: pages as best match ;-) -- 12.2 will be released also in 2013 and not 2011 (which would save us all some work, but violation of linear time is currently not an option ;) [Marcus Meissner in opensuse-announce] -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org

Looking at the state of some of the wikis I don't think it looks good to have it basically consist of only such pages. It still leave the impression that the wiki is unmaintained. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org

Hello everyone, in case you might require somebody who is willing to do regular work on the Wiki I am willing to step up for this. I am running a small translation business and did similar paid work for Mandriva SA when they were still around (translations, Wiki updates, trade show visits etc.) on a freelance basis. Also I wrote some articles for the ubuntuusers.de Wiki (such as the article on "ERP") and completed various language packs such as Codeweavers CrossOver based on wine and SQL Ledger (an old multi-user accountancy package). I have a disability but I would be more than happy to do some paid work within my means. I have been using "Tumbleweed" for quite some time and I am more than happy with it. Doing regular paid work for such a major Linux-brand would be very nice. Unfortunatly its not currently possible for openSUSE to pay contributors without them either working for or being contracted by SUSE, which would probably need some kind of business plan etc as currently there are very few people being paid specifically to work on openSUSE related tasks, much of it is done by community members or SUSE employee's part time / on the side / in there spare time Cheers On 18/06/18 21:30, Maik Wagner wrote:

Some open source contributors do Patreon. They get support by donation from others so that they can put more time on contributions. Maybe not much income at the beginning, but you could try. Simon Lees <simon@simotek.net> 于 2018年6月18日周一 15:23写道:

I got a three months contract to bring everything up to speed in their server offerings, Pulse2 and Mandriva Class. I am more than happy to discuss and define tasks and work packages to be worked on and completed. I will also have a closer look on Patreon as suggested by Yunhe Guo. Thanks for pointing this out. Hello everyone,
in case you might require somebody who is willing to do regular work on the Wiki I am willing to step up for this.
Have a good day,

We don't know the reason (whether too difficult or not enough time). We have tag templates for such wiki pages[1]. --
