I'm trying to import the GNOME OSTree current qcow2 image using virt-manager 0.9.5 on GNOME Factory. I boot Opensuse 12.3 + Xen 4.3 using Grub1. Reading http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Systemd#Getting_debug_from_systemd There's a note to ln -s /usr/lib/systemd/system/serial-getty@.service /etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants/serial-getty(a)ttyS0.service On my system, I have just: find /usr/lib/systemd/system/ -name *serial-getty* /usr/lib/systemd/system/serial-getty@.service i.e., I do NOT have the symlink for startup in place. I currently have serial console(s) enabled using the config below. It seems to work, but it's evolved to this over time, tweaked as kernel- and xen-versions have changed. I suspect it needs some clean up. My goal is to have grub, early boot, Xen and detailed, debug-level, complete boot logged to both a serial console & video out. What, if anything, SHOULD be changed in the config below for correctness? Hello, I want to change the defaults when a new vm is created. ie now the default hd is a raw image that is fully allocated when you create a vm. I would like to change it to qcow2 sparse image. Does anybody know how to do this or where to find documentation for this ? Hi all, It could be just my perception, but i've got the feeling that more and more attention is given to KVM, and i wonder if this is intentionally? For instance, on http://doc.opensuse.org/ it is about "Virtualization with KVM" in htmp, pdf and epub, while not a single word about XEN or LXC... Intentionally? I got quite some paravirtualized servers, this is seriously worrying me. And as a long term XEN user, should i start looking for an alternative distro in case SuSE is going to drop XEN? Hello, Thank you for your response. It is indeed trivial to change the default extension of the filename. But then again, so is changing the imagetype with qemu from raw fully allocated to qcow2 sparse and then editing the virtual machine properties with virsh edit. (or at least it is for me) It takes a little more effort to create a template xml or a huge one liner to create a new vm. Most things are not to difficult, but I just want the damn thing to do this for me by default. It wouldn't be the first time that after I finished creating a new vm I would notice it has the wrong image type, or the wrong video card (cirrus in stead of qxl) , incorrect display (vnc in stead of spice) etc etc. ( hence the trivial editing of kvm vm's afterwards for me) I'm getting tired of that, and I don't like modifying my xml-template or oneliner scripts everytime i create a vm. Hi everyone, Ever since I've been involved with openSUSE, the qemu package has had an unusual setup of configuring and building twice: once for the regular binaries, then moving them to a temporary directory and finally configuring and building statically for the qemu-linux-user subpackage, used for arm chroot builds among others. In our quest to finally unify the kvm and qemu packages, I have updated the qemu package to 1.5.0 (SR#176307 pending for Factory) and have subsequently prepared to split the qemu.spec[.in] to build qemu-linux-user in a separate linked package similar to gcc or kernel: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/176308 AFAICS the RPM package name stays the same that way, so armv7/armv5el should hopefully be unaffected and the change transparent to end users. A nice side-effect is that we can limit the SLE_11_SP2 build breakage to qemu-linux-user package (BNC#820754: SLE_11_SP2 is missing a glibc maintenance update for static builds). Also the dependencies for qemu-linux-user get significantly less and no *-static deps for qemu. If I don't hear any objections, I'll accept the changed qemu package into Virtualization project later today and will setup qemu-linux-user package there. For Factory this is a heads-up that we will require to copy/setup the additional qemu-linux-user package once we've tidied up and submit the package split to Factory at some future point towards 13.1. Further 13.1 work still under discussion is to create further subpackages inside qemu so that the kvm package won't need to depend on mips etc. emulation binaries. [opensuse-virtual] virsh shutdown/reboot suspends the guest

I run kvm, libvirt, virt-* from Virtualization repo on a 11.4 system. A 12.3 guest does suspend instead of reboot or shutdown if I issue the respective virsh command. The same happens when doing shutdown/reboot from virt-manager. Any idea what is causing this? Bug in 12.3 or bug in the host tools? Hi Guys: I met a graphical video crad issue in my pc :Thinkpad x200 In the last months , I use Opensuse 12.2 userspace with kernel 3.7.3, desktop,default , xen flavors are ok. they can enter X window with i915 driver which kms supported. but now I upgrade to 12.3, I found kernel 3.7.10 desktop ,default kernel are ok ,with i915 kms supported. but kernel-xen-3.7.10 l boot ok and can't enter X window. when I add parameter "nomodeset" , can enter X window. wiredly , I use Opensuse 12.3 userspace with kernel-xen-3.7.3 ,when it boots to load i915 module , the screen shows black . of course if I add parameter "nomodeset", can enter X window. why do I need use xen-kernel in PC ? maybe you feel strange , because I want to study xen or kvm virtulization technology. Hello all, I'm wondering what the pro's and cons of all the volume format types are ? what are the (dis)advantages of any of the following ? raw, bochs, cloop, cow, dmg, iso, qcow, qcow2, qed, vmdk, vpc and what would be the pro's and con's to put a certain volume format on a storage pool type ? Directory pool, Filesystem pool, Logical volume pools, Disk volume pools, ? For example : raw volume format is highly portable, most virtualization solutions support this type nfs is simple to set up as a remote storage pool without huge investments, but performance may not be optimal. iscsi is slightly more complex than nfs but also cheap to set up and when configured properly performs better. lvm partitions are very usefull Does an iscsi lun that is a raw partition on the target server outperform an iscsi lun that is a file on a disk on the target server ? Does anybody know a site that has a good comparison between the ones mentioned above. Hi, I've installed opensuse 12.3 as dom0 and after a reboot my first three domUs don't start. In the logfile /var/log/messages I see the following messages, which let me assume, that xendomains is started (16:34:27) even xenstore has finished starting (16:34:30). So what can I do to let xendomains start after xenstore has finished starting ? For a test I added a sleep 5 at the beginning of xendomains script and now all my domUs will be started at boot time. [opensuse-virtual] running gtk apps on kdm/kde gives very poor performance using qxl

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right mailinglist for my question so please forgive me and direct me to the proper one if its not. I've installed the latest spice releases on opensuse and everything is working fine. (usbredir, qxl etc) I use it for a portal running kdm end kde via ssh all working fine. I got only two problems. one minor, spice-vdagent is not started automatically after reboot by kdm, I have to do this manually via 'systemctl start spice-vdagentd.service' after which the desktop launches the userspace bit when logging in. and one very annoying. When I start a gtk based application the system grinds to a halt, where the menu was snappy and responsive before it becomes not usable after launching a gtk based app, firefox for example or virt-manager. I can either wait for it to draw the application window which can take minutes and then close it or kill it via a shell session. After which the session becomes fast and responsive again. I've dug through logs everywhere (syslog, xsession-error, Xorg.0.log) but don't see any errors that are not there when not launching the gtk based apps. I got 3 errors flooding my logs which are also there when not using gtk apps. out of surfaces qxl_surface_create: Zero width or height qxl_surface_create: Bad bpp: 1 (1) Does anybody have any idea where to start looking to improve performance of the gtk apps. [opensuse-virtual] usbredirection auto reconnect, nokia pc suite (works except for firmware updates)

Hello, After some strugle I've managed to connet my local nokia phone via usbredirect to a remote virtual Windoze machine running on kvm. It works fine except for the firmware updates. (it even connects and synchronises to the pc suite) For some reason nokia has decided it is a sweet trick to reset the usb connection at some point while they do the update. The phone whitches off after they do this (not bricked so nothing the power switch can't deal with) After which the update fails and sometimes even the spicy session hangs. Turning on autoconnect plugged in usb devices doesn't work, adding a total of 4 usb channels doesn't work either. Anybody have any idea where to look for a solution ? Launching a pre-built QEMU ARM image following the instructions at https://en.opensuse.org/HCL:VersatileExpress Reviewing: Downloaded the disk image, extracted, grew it to 20GB Downloaded the kernel archive, extracted to same folder holding the prepared disk image. Executed the following command from within the folder holding these files, which returns as follows # qemu-system-arm -M vexpress-a9 -m 1G -drive file=openSUSE-12.2-ARM-XFCE-vexpress.armv7l.raw, if=sd -serial stdio -kernel initrd*kernel -initrd initrd*h.gz -append console=tty qemu-system-arm: -drive file=openSUSE-12.2-ARM-XFCE-vexpress.armv7l.raw,: drive with bus=0, unit=0 (index=0) exists Not sure what I'm doing wrong and the error perplexes me... No other VM is running but of course the drive should already exist if I'm pointing to an existing disk image file. I probably am misunderstanding something... As Per suggested, i'll try on this list as it is more on-topic. I grew up with XEN, so i rather stick with it (inertia ;-) but if it isn't maintained anymore, i'll ditch xen and start looking at LXC (for linux) and KVM (for non-linux). [opensuse-virtual] qemu-kvm question

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask... I'm attempting to boot OSTree: https://live.gnome.org/OSTree/GnomeOSTree ...using the QEMU method. It works on Fedora using this command line: qemu-kvm -vga vmware -cpu core2duo -M pc-0.15 -kernel /boot/vmlinuz-$(uname -r) -initrd /boot/initramfs-ostree-$(uname -r).img -hda ostree-qemu.img -m 1024M -vga vmware -append 'rd.plymouth=0 root=/dev/sda ostree=current ' -monitor stdio I'd prefer to get it running on openSUSE so I can take it on my laptop. It fails with this error: (qemu) Could not initialize SDL(No available video device) - exiting Is there an easy way to diagnose this?
