[opensuse-virtual] Where to set "/xen.gz <options>" in grub2 config?

I just installed openSUSE 13.2 with Xen & kernel-xen. I need to set up the /xen.gz ... <OPTIONS> ... in grub. In grub-legacy that's easy. Just modify the /boot/grub/menu.lst kernel /xen.gz dom0_mem=1024M,max:1024M dom0_max_vcpus=2 dom0_vcpus_pin=true ... The system installed grub2 as the default. In grub2 it's not clear to me how to set those options. The grub2-generated /boot/grub/grub.cfg has ... echo 'Loading Xen xen ...' if [ "$grub_platform" = "pc" -o "$grub_platform" = "" ]; then xen_rm_opts= else xen_rm_opts="no-real-mode edd=off" fi multiboot /xen.gz placeholder ${xen_rm_opts} ... Where is $grub_platform defined? I can't find the source. Can I query it from the shell? In either if/else case, it doesn't give you the option to add your own options. [opensuse-virtual] can't boot opensuse 13.2 + xen 4.5 on GRUB2/UEFI server. No console output & stall at initrd.

I've installed an openSUSE 13.2 server. The server's built on a modern Supermicro motherboard with full UEFI support. openSUSE boots ok via GRUB2+UEFI to kernel-default. uname -r 3.19.2-3.gd8856ce-default I'm working on the switch to a Xen Dom0 I installed efibootmgr-0.6.0-3.2.2.x86_64 grub2-x86_64-efi-2.02~beta2-20.5.1.x86_64 grub2-x86_64-xen-2.02~beta2-20.5.1.x86_64 kernel-xen-3.19.2-3.1.gd8856ce.x86_64 xen-4.5.0_03-359.6.x86_64 xen-libs-4.5.0_03-359.6.x86_64 xen-tools-4.5.0_03-359.6.x86_64 When I boot/select the Xen option it stalls at WARNING: no console will be available to os ... loading initramd ... There's no console output. A search on the message led me to http://lists.xenproject.org/archives/html/xen-users/2014-03/msg00142.html It is not possible to boot EFI Xen via grub. You should instead boot it direct from the EFI shell. http://xenbits.xen.org/docs/unstable/misc/efi.html has some documentation for the config file which Xen expects when booting in this mode. Daniel Kiper is working with grub upstream to make a version of multiboot which is compatible with EFI for use when booting Xen via grub on such systems. AFAIK it is not complete. and http://xenbits.xen.org/docs/unstable/misc/efi.html When booted as an EFI application, Xen requires a configuration file as described below unless a bootloader, such as GRUB, has loaded the modules and describes them in the device tree provided to Xen. If a bootloader provides a device tree containing modules then any configuration files are ignored, and the bootloader is responsible for populating all relevant device tree nodes. I'm not sure if those are relevant to this case. Does opensuse Xen Dom0 boot from GRUB2+UEFI? What/where do I need to edit to fix the 'no console' error? [opensuse-virtual] Upgrading Opensuse 13.2 kernel in a Xen Guest breaks networking and access to it. Downgrading it fixes it. What's wrong?

A dev here needs remote hosted access to Opensuse 13.2 with a newer kernel. After reading up on different hosting environments used with Opensuse I decided to build up a Linode VPS for it. This weekend I first setup a new test box here locally. I added the http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard repo to a clean install of Opensuse 13.2 and installed the latest kernel from there, 3.19.1-1.ga04cebc-default. I recreated the initrd. Then rebooted. It works great. Next I went to do the same thing for the Linode. I installed Opensuse 13.2 base install there using the base install with kernel-xen instead of kernel-default. And xen-tools-domU & xen-libs too. It boots and runs great. Next I added the same Kernel:/stable repo and upgraded to 3.19.1-1.ga04cebc-xen. I installed xen-tools-domU & xen-libs from the up to date http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Virtualization/openSUSE_13.2 repo too I did the mkinitrd like always and rebooted. I can't login anymore using ssh. Luckily I can use Linode's emergency remote console to get to it and login. I guess its using `xl console <guest>`. I can login using the xen console. Networking is offline. I can't get anywhere. If I uninstall the upgraded kernel and reinstall the base install then after reboot everything works ok again. I can login using ssh from my office. What's wrong with the setup that's breaking the access? Hello everyone, Virtualization qemu package was updated to v2.3.0-rc0 last week. This included a bug that broke forking. A fix is submitted [1] and building. Factory should not be affected (I don't submit -rc0), only OBS setups using qemu-linux-user from the Virtualization project directly, such as the armv6l and aarch64 builds (but not armv7l). If you see weird package failures, please check that (usually the x86_64 version of) qemu-linux-user has succeeded building and then trigger a rebuild of your package. https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/Virtualization/qemu-linux-user If someone has good ideas how to run some form of test suite in OBS to catch such breakages, please feel free to make proposals. [opensuse-virtual] sistemad telling me "Time has been changed", only on xen guests?

After having migrated a number of systems to a xen setup, I am seeing this "Time has been changed" message from systemd twice a minute in the guest systems (once per systemd daemon). The host is running ntpd, the guests aren't. Both host and guests are using openSUSE 13.2 + latest updates. My xen host is openSUSE 13.2. I have one guest running currently. I created a second guest to install 13.2 and ran "xl create". [opensuse-virtual] guests w/nfs root hanging on reboot

I have xen guests working w/nfs root on 13.1, however they hang on reboot with: [** ] (2 of 2) A stop job is running for ifup managed network interface eth0 Of course nfs root is mounted via eth0.. I did not have the same problem with 12.3, but perhaps I'm missing something. I created these guests by copying a base from dom0 and cleaning it up. When everything is worked out I'm going to have a provisioning script that creates new guests as requested from a nightly tar from a running copy of this base, and modifies as needed. I've started my own, but does anyone have something they are using they would like to share? [opensuse-virtual] workaround for mkinitrd bug?

I'm unable to boot my guest with nfs root. I've compiled the kernel w/ nfs root. On boot it complains of no such device /dev/nfs I can see inside the initrd the fstab lists /dev/nfs I think I'm hitting hitting this bug: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=861218 They mention mkinitrd is dead, and I certainly generated the initrd parked on the dom0 with something like: mkinitrd -k vmlinuz-version-xen-nfsroot -i initrd-version-xen-nfsroot -f nfs The server is fully patched, is there a preferred work around for this? I'm messing with xen in OpenSuSE 13.1 on a Dell R220. An install from disc selecting xen server failed to produce a bootable system. I got it working by installing a minimal server, then installing the xen-server pattern via zypper. I set the xen kernel as the default reboot and voilà, dom0 here we are. Now I'd like for the xen kernel to be the only option on the system. If I uninstall kernel-default, and zypper installs kernel-desktop. If I uninstall kernel-desktop zypper installs kernel-default.
