[opensuse-virtual] Correct "boot=" disk enumeration in Xen HVM Guest config? Novell docs & qemu man page conflict.

When a Xen HVM guest is started with multiple disks in addition to a cdrom, e.g. disk = [ 'phy:/dev/VG0/boot,xvda,w', 'phy:/dev/VG0/swap,xvdb,w', 'phy:/dev/VG0/root,xvdc,w', 'phy:/dev/cdrom,xvdd:cdrom,r', ] how does one correctly specify booting from the cdrom? Reading XEN: How to CD-boot fully-virtualized DomU's after initial installation http://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=3156432 "The drive numeration for fully virtual booting follows the traditional DOS drive enumeration; that is, hard disk start at "C" and continue up, followed by CD-ROM devices." suggests boot='f' But, as these params are (?) passed to qemu, checking qemu's man page, -boot [order=drives][,once=drives][,menu=on|off][,splash=sp_name][,splash-time=sp_time] Specify boot order drives as a string of drive letters. Valid drive letters depend on the target achitecture. The x86 PC uses: a, b (floppy 1 and 2), c (first hard disk), d (first CD-ROM), n-p (Etherboot from network adapter 1-4), hard disk boot is the default. I have a Opensuse 12.2 + Xen 4.2 server. I want to configure a Xen Guest to boot to a physically attached Opensuse install DVD, and init the guest with the default 'xl' toolstack. Same error & log. Installing the latest Version of the Guest Additions directs to (Virtualbox menu)->Devices->Install Guest Additions I'm unable to locate any devices menu in either the KMenu starter or the VirtualBox window menus. What is this about? I tried installing guest-x11 & guest-tools first without regard to this URL, but get init failure messages from starting vboxdrv, virtualbox guest additions and virtualbox kernel modules. Is this related to my other message, virtualbox installation having pulled in kernel-default 2.6.37 though I'm running kernel-desktop 3.5.3? Am I supposed to run some other 3.5.3 kernel, or some 2.6.37, to make vbox run any additions? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." [opensuse-virtual] Why does VBox need 2.6.37 while 11.4 is on 3.x kernel?

I just upgraded from Cedar Mill to Conroe in order to pick up VT-x, and install VirtualBox. I've been running BS stable kernels on this install since the beginning. Today zypper in virtualbox pulled in a 2.6.37 kernel, which hadn't been installed since the original installation was upgraded to stable BS kernel over a year ago. Zypper rm kernel-desktop-2.6.37.6 caused virtualbox to uninstall. Then with kernel-desktop unlocked I did zypper in kernel-desktop virtualbox to get VBox back, which brought 2.6.37 back in again. What does the 2.6.37 kernel provide that 3.5.3 doesn't have but VBox needs? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
