KDE Connect - Too many notifications.
A couple of months ago, I got a new Google Pixel 6 phone. Since then, I've been getting an excessive amount of email notifications from KDE Connect on my computer. Sometimes I have a stack of them reaching almost the top of my screen. I have checked both the phone and computer KDE Connect settings and I can't see anything that would cause this. Is there any way to stop all these notifications, short of uninstalling KDE Connect? KDE on Leap 15.3 Previously used a Pixel 2. tnx jk
Forgot to mention, I'm using the GMail app on the phone. Right now I'm seeing messages pop up that I've already deleted. On 2022-01-03 9:33 a.m., James Knott wrote:

that's google for you - gmail never really **deletes** mail. it's all still in "All Messages"... This has only been happening since I switched phones. Previously, I'd see notifications when an email first came in, along with other activity on the phone. Why should the app report email that's already been read or deleted? I can understand getting notified when email first comes it, but not after that.

So is this the same app on the new phone as was on the old one? Leslie -- Distribution: openSUSE Leap 15.3 x86_64

It may be coincidence. Gmail changed several months ago how it handles read/deleted messages. My phone has not changed in this period. If I read an e-mail in the Gmail app on my cellphone while my laptop is off, it will never appear on the laptop unless I mark it read on the cellphone. A year ago, even 8 months ago, this did not happen. HTH, Jeffrey

I have never had the problem. The only thing I've noticed is my email app, Seamonkey, doesn't download messages unless I'm actually in the inbox folder. I do have the server settings configured to check every minute. The issue with KDE Connect was due to a setting "Persistent notifications" on the phone.
I found the problem. There's a setting "Persistent notification" which was turned on. This causes notifications to be repeated frequently, even if the reason for them is long gone. On 2022-01-03 9:33 a.m., James Knott wrote:

You can get to it through Settings > System Settings. Click on the KDEConnect icon. -- Bob Williams System: Linux 5.3.18-lp152.50-default Desktop: KDE Frameworks: 5.71.0, Qt: 5.12.7 and Plasma: 5.18.5 https://useplaintext.email/

I don't see that setting in there.
Settings > System Settings > Hardware > KDE Connect. Choose a connected device from the list eg. your phone Scroll down to Send notifications and select it. Now open its Configure menu from the icon to the right (two horizontal bars). -- Bob Williams System: Linux 5.3.18-lp152.50-default Desktop: KDE Frameworks: 5.71.0, Qt: 5.12.7 and Plasma: 5.18.5 https://useplaintext.email/

Bob, that is not the answer to the question. There is a setting there but not for the problem. Isn't that for notifications from the computer to the device? My problem was the other way. Stuff that appeared on the phone was sent to the computer. For example, I was getting notifications about a phone call long after it happened. What was most annoying were all the notifications from the GMail app, which receives the same messages as my email app on my computer. I don't need to see those notifications, though once is OK. It was the repeated notifications, for the same thing, even well after the event that were so annoying.

Ah. You could be right. I haven't tested it. -- Bob Williams System: Linux 5.3.18-lp152.50-default Desktop: KDE Frameworks: 5.71.0, Qt: 5.12.7 and Plasma: 5.18.5 https://useplaintext.email/
