thanks. rc.config was correct already but I had to run mk_initrd. I wonder why.... mk

Hello,
ok I had the time to do a few installs of SuSE 7.2 and basically 2.4 kernel with reiser doesn't work at all. I have gotten to the same kernel panic on three different machines with three different hds (2, 8, 45 gig).
I do a fresh install. I put in partitions:
/dev/hda1 reiser /dev/hda2 swap
I chose 2.4.4-GB kernel. I run LILO.
It reboots and LILO runs but it kernel panics at 03:01. I tried putting in root=/dev/hda1 but it doesn't help it. I tried upgrading to suse stock kernel 2.4.7-4GB before the first reboot and the same kernel panic happens.
I installed ext2 with 2.2. kernel fine though.
Is SuSE gonna fix this kernel panic problem in their stock kernel?
I think there is no problem with kernel. The problem is that reiserfs module is not included in your initrd. You need to append reserfs to INITRD_MODULES in /etc/rc.config, then run mk_initrd and then lilo. And your problem will be fixed.

OK, let me expand on this. The line I quoted specifies which modules should be included into initrd. That variable is used by mk_initrd script. If you leave this variable blank, then no modules will be included into initrd. reiserfs is compiled as module in 2.4.4 kernel. To make it available at boot time you need to include it into initrd. Same thing with SCSI adapters. They are usually compiled as modules and need be included in initrd for SCSI systems. -Kastus
