[S.u.S.E. Linux] Re: No Vaporware...
I use these Maxspeed terminals in my SCO OS5 based professional office. They are an excellent affordable maintenance free option to PC's Distance was the limitation (1st 100' then 200' - now 500') and fluorescent light fitting interference (since they transmit compressed video signals over unshielded Cat 5 cable). You need a four port board for every 4 terminals. It cost me I think $750 for the board and $250 for the station 'pizza box' with the ports for the local devices. My first call to them after firing them up a year ago was - When do we get these on Linux ! Glad to know that Linux is now seen as a valid market. John Totten Sitka Alaska Hal (DCI) wrote:
No this is not an advertisement. This is excitement and a long awaited solution.
Just got off the phone with the dudes at Maxspeed. Within six(6) weeks they will have a driver complete for Linux distribution.
Maxspeed, located at <A HREF="http://www.maxspeed.com"><A HREF="http://www.maxspeed.com</A">http://www.maxspeed.com provides basically an NC solution for multiple users attached to a server.
o Installation is less than 10 minutes per user o Connecting with Cat 5 cable. Maximum distance from the server 500 feet o Use standard monitors, keyboards and mice o Full scalability o Remote management of the workgroup
With prices starting at about $399 (MSRP), discounts available.
So using the Maxspeed box, add your flavor of monitor with resolutions up to 1024/???, your keyboard and a mouse, you become free of the PC millstone. What a deal?
