[opensuse] Mondo on 10.2 & 10.3
Hello SuSE people, Been thinking about using Mondo to copy my 10.2 and 10.3 installs to clear off my big disk and make space for 11.0 when it comes out. The object of this would be to reduce the number of partitions so I have room for partitions on 11.0 as dictated by the wonderful libata requirements that have been foisted upon us. Does anyone know if mondo/mindi requires the exact same partition setup to restore the distros ? Do I need a separate mondo/mindi for each distro? I see they are designated separately. I have Factory 11.0 running on 8 puters. All but one or two are running on legacy drivers rather than libata, so I wouldn't be in such a hurry to wipe away perfectly good partitions. -- ". . . . in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you . . . ." Nope. If you do choose to use the legacy driver you will need to also modify your fstab file accordingly. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hmmmm.....Really !! How do I do that ? From the install DVD? I certainly wouldn't mind hand editing the fstab files. Bob S -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

As I said, you need to modify the entries in fstab from sdxx to hdxx for the IDE drives. And also change menu.lst accordingly. As far as how, name your poison, I use vi. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Ken, Bear with me here. I must be one dumb old codger. Are you telling me that if I just edit the fstab files and the menu.lst file that I will get back the 30+ partitions that libata took away? Read the rest of YOUR thread. It is after you change back to the legacy driver, just before you reboot. If you change to the legacy driver it uses hdxx for the IDE drives which means you also need to change any reference in /etc/fstab and /boot/grub/menu.lst as well. If _you_ are not sure of (know) what _you_ are doing _you_ will break _your_ system. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
