[opensuse] 2.6.20 for 10.2?
Is there a stable 2.6.20 kernel for openSuse 10.2, and has anyone had any good/bad experience with it? -- _____________________________________ John Andersen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm usinsg 2.6.20.2-67-default provided by openSUSE at http://software.opensuse.org/download/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_10.2/ I'm using it for a month now, with very good results. The exception is NFS performance. I'm also using 2.6.21-rc5 on my home machine, with great results so far. The problem of that repository is that there is only one version available... The latest... so, I don't know where one can find the 2.6.20.2-default kernel I now use. openSUSE folks: Is there any archive we can access for the purpose of getting previous HEAD kernel versions ? -- Rui Santos http://www.ruisantos.com/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

What issues do see, and when? Have you been able to compare the NFS behaviour with previous kernel versions? -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes I was. With the original 2.6.18 openSUSE10.2 kernel, my machine acting as NFS client, copied files to the NFS Server at 10.xMB/sec ( 100 Mbit network). With the 2.6.20 kernel it copy's at a max of 500KB/sec. The only difference is the kernel version. The machine is the same. Do you know anything that might be able to help me? The NFS Server is a SuSE Linux 9.3 using it's standard kernel. Thanks for your interest Rui Santos

Not myself. But perhaps this bug report https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231234 may be of any help? -- Richard Bos We are borrowing the world of our children, It is not inherited from our parents. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Does anyone know when the 2.6 kernel will be able to provide a workable usbfs analog so that virtualization software can see the usb ports? I heard a mention that it might be coming along soon but nothing concrete. I loaded VirtualBox here and it works really well except for the b.s. about no usb. The usb printer works great via Samba, networking works well outbound, but inbound to VB is a bitch to setup so I have left it alone for now. ====== -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

AFAIK: openSUSE 10.3 will hopefully include usbfs kernel module. -- -Alexey Eremenko "Technologov" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm usinsg 2.6.20.2-67-default provided by openSUSE at
http://software.opensuse.org/download/Kernel:/HEAD/openSUSE_10.2/
What is the meaning of the /HEAD/ in that url. I note that in that same tree there are debian kernels. What's THAT all about? It has been suggested by the Vmware bunch that the famous 5 minute freeze of the entire X server on a dual core machine can be avoided by us of .20 or later. (I'm not sure I totally believe them). -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

I've also running the 2.6.20.2-104-default w/o any problems till now. But I' just forgot to download the rpm and the src.rpm. Now I noticed there is only the 2.6.21 rc available. I have both the kernel and the source installed, however I'd like to have a local backup of it. Does anybody know a link to those files or could make it available to me on his/her ftp? I have an own ftp however the upload speed would be something like 40kb/s. :( Thx in advance Jan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That this is the source tree where the suse/novell developers add their new stuff, import from kernel.org etc. It's the kernel that is on its way to the next version

Did you totally miss what the build service is all about? It is a generic build service, capable of building packages for many distros, not just opensuse. In the downloads you'll find packages for opensuse, debian, red hat, mandriva etc. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've been using the "Default" 2.6.20.x kernel since RC2 and it has been very good. No problems and very stable. -- (o:]>*HUGGLES*<[:o) Billie Walsh The three best words in the English Language: "I LOVE YOU" Pass them on! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
