[opensuse] On 11.2 - display size will not stick
I recently installed 11.2 and by default the display was configured for 1280x1024. I can go into Personal Settings - Configure Desktop and change it to 1024 x 768. But every time X restarts it changes back. I tried running and changing it in - sax2 - but then the font size don't change - stays small. Unless I'm daffy - could be - where do I change it to get it to stick ? Sounds like you need an xorg.conf with a PreferredMode line in it; however.... If you use a display with a 1280x1024 native mode, there is a higher quality way to force everything bigger, including fonts, than using a non-native mode such as 1024x768: force the DPI higher by lying to X about the size of the display, telling X that it is smaller than it really is. This is in effect a way to scale the whole X environment's object repertoire larger. The way to do that depends in part on the video driver. If nvidia binary drivers something like http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/425886-how-change-kdm-font-size-open... may help. For other drivers, pick a suitable DisplaySize from http://fm.no-ip.com/share/DisplaySize to insert in xorg.conf, and in xorg.conf disable autodetect from DDC/EDID according to whatever method required by the video driver you use, a NoDDC, Option DDC false or some other EDID disabler. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
