Every time I try to install the proprietry Nvidia drivers X11 KDE Plasma completely fails to start
Hi, As the title really. I have no idea what is going on. It happened after the UsrMerge update and now I can't install the propriety drivers at all without completely killing my GUI. Is this a known issue at all? I don't want to try again because I haven't been able to fix it. Simon.
Do you have any more details? I have (repeatable) success with the .run from: https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads which installs 465.19.01 ; it's worked w/ the last 2-3 kernels 5.12.4-1, 5.12.4-2, 5.12.9-1. I just keep it in /home/<user>/Downloads and then use Alt+F4 to switch to a tty and install it after kernel updates. Generally run "sudo systemctl stop display-manager.service" so nothing is using X, but I don't know that specifically is a requirement. Also use 'prime select' to deal w/ the integrated intel chipset (UHD Graphics 630_ and the dedicated nvidia card (Quadro T1000). Also, make sure the proper kernel devel RPMs are installed for the kernel you're running, then ENSURE /lib/modules doesn't contain any dead links (fix them if they do). You can also run "cd /usr ; ln -s . /usr/usr" as a temp hack to make the bad links work.

Yes, it's a well known, much discussed (in the mailing lists and forums), and noted at the UsrMerge page, see: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Usr_merge - which suggests the workaround: cd /usr ln -s . /usr/usr Which works fine for my TW/Nvidia desktop. Michael

Thank you so much! That fixed the issue for me. Simon.
