Getting Promise Fasttrak66 RAID working in SuSE 7.1
Hi, I installed SuSE 7.1 this weekend, but I have problems getting Linux to work with my Promise Fasttrak66 IDE RAID controller. I mounted two 20 GB IDE disks on the controller - one on each channel, and both as slaves (since else the cable wasn't long enough :p) The card recognizes the drives fine, and I created a RAID 0 array of 40 gigs. SuSE install, however, only sees one of the discs, and apparently not as an array (since it recognizes it as an IBM <insert model no here>). I went to www.promise.com where it says that rpms for redhat are available - can I use them for anything at all ? Any help available at all ? Is it possible to boot Linux off the RAID controller ? I assume I need to somehow recompile the kernel with support for the controller, if support for it is not available via kernel modules. Any help would be highly appreciated :) -- Med venlig hilsen / Regards Klaus Agnoletti System Administrator / System Test Engineer Filanet Europe Herlev Hovedgade 82c, 1. Linux does not support the RAID functionality of the Fasttrack. Promise is currently developing (binary only!) drivers, that will someday appear on the Promise web site. You'll have to check there. We will *not* include the Promise drivers in our distribution as they're binary only. If you want real hardware RAID (the Fasttrack only does software RAID) with good Linux support, do yourself a favour and buy one of the 3Ware controllers (check out http://www.3ware.com ). Drivers are in the standard 2.4.X kernels and in our 2.2.X kernels. -- Penguins to save the dinosaurs -- Handelsblatt on Linux for S/390
