[opensuse] Security Updates
I keep getting notified that a security update is available for python and postfix. However, when I click the update button, I get the following error: Dependency resolution failed A package could not be found that allows the task to complete. More information is available in the detailed report. More details patch:esound-138.noarch conflicts with pavucontrol.i586 < 0.9.6-4.1 provided by pavucontrol-0.9.6-0.pm.1.i586 Would some kind soul tell me what I need to do to clear this thing? -- Don Henson

"pm" in the release number of package pavucontrol tells me you are using Packman.
Would some kind soul tell me what I need to do to clear this thing?
High Level: Patch sound-138 has some dependencies (requires) which are conflict with the requires from Packman package pavucontrol. I guess pavucontrol has a requires "==" or "<=" on certain package version, while the package has a requires ">=" on higher package version in the mentioned patch. Without further information (which product are you using) I could only guess. I assume you are using openSUSE 11.0, in this case pavucontrol is part of the mentioned patch. Update provides <package name="pavucontrol" arch="i586" version="0.9.6" release="4.1"> Not using pavucontrol from Packman but the one from the distribution will help in this case. If you are using 3rd party repositories it is not always possible to avoid conflicts. -- Harald Müller-Ney, Project Manager Maintenance Coordination SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, D-90409 Nürnberg Phone: +49 (0) 911 74053130 Mobile: +49 (0) 179 2287009 Fax: +49 (0) 911 74053575 eMail: hmuelle@novell.com SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm having the same issue. What is "a p ending upgrade"? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It's a typo. It should be "a pending upgrade". To find them, go to "install Software". Select "Upgrades" and enter "pavu" in the filter. Good luck. -- Don Henson
Today I was prompted with a security update to mozilla-xulrunner. The update comes from the openSUSE-11.0-Updates repository. When attempting to apply the update, it fails with a PackageKit Error of "Dependency resolution failed" message. Clicking on More details offers the following: patch:mozilla-xulrunner181-329.noarch conflicts with mozilla-xulrunner181.i586 < 1.8.1.18-0.1 provided by mozilla-xulrunner181-1.8.1.18-1.1.i586 The auto-update then tells me the update was applied, but it obviously wasn't and notifies me of a security update the next time it checks. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue? Should I just wait and let it work itself out? Anyone else seeing this? Is this another instance of bug #447986? I see it too but I hadn't done anything about it as I guess that it could be related to the previous issue... -- =================================================== Rodney Baker VK5ZTV rodney.baker@iinet.net.au ===================================================

Since the "newer" version is from my repo I want to get that solved but I'm not sure what causes it. Apparently I don't understand the error message but I'd expect that everything should be fine as the version of the buildservice is higher than the official update. And I couldn't reproduce it up to now. Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
