Wrong log file. YaST logs to /var/log/YaST2/y2log but in this case it looks irrelevant, since it can't even find yast. What does rpm -qa yast2\* return? How about rpm -Va yast2\* -- Certified: Yes. Certifiable: of course! jabberID: anders@rydsbo.net

Interesting. You seem to have all packages, and nothing important is corrupted. What happens if you su to root manually, with sux - and then run yast2 from the command line? I think it's deeper. This am I noticed that I've lost my DNS resolution on that system. I deleted and re-installed the network card, a typical cure for 9.1 and it's still fritzed out. Mike

rm /root/.Xauthority exit sux- should solve that. But this is actually good, because it means it is trying to start yast2, otherwise you'd just get "no such file or directory". So this seems to confirm my theory that it is something to do with susewatcher's path setting Now I just need to figure out where that is set :) -- Certified: Yes. Why would susewatcher's path affect staring YOU from inside of YaST, or for than matter YaST's "Install and Remove Software" module?

hm, I think this symbol comes from liby2util. Maybe you should get the latest versions of both manually http://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/update/9.1/rpm/i586/yas... http://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/update/9.1/rpm/i586/lib... and install them manually with rpm -Uvh

It wouldn't. But the actual error you reported in your first mail was that kdesu couldn't even find the yast2 command. You didn't get a yast error saying it failed to launch the module, you couldn't even launch yast, and that isn't a bug in yast. It seems you do have a problem with yast on top of this, but those would be separate issues -- Certified: Yes. Certifiable: of course! jabber ID: anders@rydsbo.net

From SuSEWatcher this is true. YaST Control Center did and does open up as I was able to re-install the network card (mentioned in an earlier post). At this point I cannot install software in YaST or change the install source. The other modules on that page are working.

If you run YaST from a shell, do you get any error output in that shell window when you try to run those two modules? -- Certified: Yes. Certifiable: of course! jabber ID: anders@rydsbo.net

I suggest you go through the online update directory and make sure you are up to date with the yast packages. I can see for example that there is an update to yast2-core you don't have (-1.8). -- Certified: Yes. Certifiable: of course! jabber ID: anders@rydsbo.net

Thanks Anders, doing just that I was able to bring those two modules back to working order. I still have some work to do on KDE, but the system is stable and usable. Mike

I'm experiencing a problem on one of my my 9.1 systems. It seems that someone rebooted the system during an unfinished on-line update session. Now I cannot get Yast to open you module, or to open the install software module.
I had the same problem a few times. The solution was either to remove the offending installation-sources, or rebuild the RPM-database (rpm --rebuilddb). Sven
