KDE Service Module and mediamanager are turned off
In the KDE Control Center the Service Manager module is greyed out. The error message is: Unable to contact KDED. The 'My Computer' desktop icon gives this error message: The KDE mediamanager is not running. /media/dvdrecorder says No Items - No Files - No Folders. I recently updated KDE using Yast. How can I get the Service Manager module and mediamanager running again? Thanks, Jerome

KDED is the KDE Daemon that provides all the services listed in the Service Manager. The control center module is greyed out if it's not running. My guess is that something failed on the update. Firstly try starting KDED by hand at the console: just "kded" should do. Are there any error messages? Secondly check that you updated all of your KDE together, and got the corresponding Qt. If you added supplementary as an install source this *should* have happened. If not, get it from the SUSE supplementary ftp. Check your KDE packages are all the same version with "rpm -qa | grep ^kde" - are they all 3.5.1-x? HTH Will

That did it.
Secondly check that you updated all of your KDE together, and got the corresponding Qt. If you added supplementary as an install source this *should* have happened. If not, get it from the SUSE supplementary ftp.
