I am running SuSE 9.1. Tried to update (using synaptic) to ULB-Gnome. Something apparently went wrong because I lost my login screen (system hangs with a light blue screen with small clock, the login screen never appears). Solved that problem via re-installing the original SuSE gdm that came with 9.1 (using the CDs and doing a system repair). Worked, but now I have another, equally annoying problem: in GNOME, all characters of the screen are so small (practically zero size) that nothing can be read anymore. Using synaptic I went back to ULB-Gnome (update system). I now have the ULB login screen but my characters on the GNOME screens remain impossible to read. Help plse (I have now fallen back to one of the simple window managers that come with SuSE but that is much less user friendly and can certainly not be used by the rest of the family). Yeah, that's my fault, noticed it yesterday. Will rebuild the packages soon, but in the meantime grab www.usr-local-bin.org/gdm.conf and save it in /etc/opt/gnome/gdm

Whoa, hang on, you upgraded it again and it worked? Weird... Anyway, the fonts, I don't know if Synaptic runs SuSEconfig after it's installed everything - try that, then log back in. -- James Ogley, UNIX Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 www.pinnacle.co.uk Personal: james@rubberturnip.org.uk www.rubberturnip.org.uk Updated GNOME packages for SUSE LINUX: www.usr-local-bin.org
