[opensuse] KDE 4.3: no OpenGL, only XRender possible?
Hi, My (not so) old PC (P4, 2.4 GHz, 1.5G Ram) has an Nvidia Gforce4 TI 4200 with AGP8X. KDE 4.3 on opensuse 11.2, kernel default, (clean, fresh install) doesn't show any of those new effects. I tried to enable them, but KDE says it can't. But when I change from OpenGL to XRender it can - only, it is very, very, veeery slow... Any hints how I can enable OpenGL to make the effects faster? If any info is needed, I'll provide it. have a nice day! Do nvidia list the card as supported? I have a really nice nvidia card that is not so old, and it has been removed from the list of supported cards. I do not think nvidia keep cards when their technology differs too much from the pack. They do have legacy drivers. But these tend not to support the features you are looking for. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O. It is on the list of linux supported cards with the code 0x281. But I don't know what that code says nor which driver I must use *if* I should change it... any help? This is on the list of cards in the current nvidia driver, right? Not the X.org list, as that will not enable any of the features you are looking at. Is the driver you are using called 'nv' or 'nvidia'? Are there kernel modules with the name nvidia* loaded into your system? -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O. I found it on this list: http://www.nvidia.de/object/linux_supported_de.html sysinfo:/ says the driver is "nvidia", not "nv" lsmod shows to lines containing the word nvidia: nvidia 4714612 32 i2c_core 32308 2 nvidia,i2c_i801 I installed the nvidia driver from the opensuse nvidia build repository. I just added nvidia's own repository, it shows the same drivers. The installed (and available) driver is 96.43.11 while the nvidia website shows 100.14.11 (21.6.2007), but this one is for self-compiling, not available as rpm... Do I have to change something to get "nv" instead of "nvidia"?
