[opensuse] netcfg (15.1 and TW)
LS, I can't start postfix or nfs-server because /etc/services is relocated to /usr/etc/services as from Jan 30. Other programs are not accordingly adjusted! This happens both under TW and 15.1. Please, correct this issue. Regards, Frans. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Regards, Frans.
I found even more files under /usr/etc who originally where located under /etc. Some other services need those other files. I copied all back to /etc to have a working system. Please don't fool around with different FS layouts until all other programs are aware of it!!!! --- Frans. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Where are these other discussions? I would like to understand exactly what the change is and the rationale for it. Also what the scope is - openSUSE or wider? AFAIK FHS 3.0 is still current and there is no /usr/etc in there. My reading of it suggests that something like /etc/services could be moved to /usr/share and a symlink to it be placed in /etc to remain compliant. But I would argue that since local administrators may still require to add new (possibly local) protocols to it from time to time, it should remain in /etc. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Apparently you need to apply some updates to nsswitch.conf. That is should also apply to Leap 15.1 is a bit worrying. I have checked the contents of /usr/etc and it refers only to "boinc". So, it can't be of influence to the NFS client. Maybe it was a coincidental issue together with a specific NFS server which is running under TW and needs the /etc/services file? Anyhow, 15.1 seems not having any problem, so I stand corrected. There, however, remains the issue of updating TW and the seemingly expected additional manual user activities. As others already stated in another thread: a nerdy update process is not going to win more real users. I am using Suse and openSuSE now for some decades, never had to use - nor was aware of it - the additional manual tasks after updating. -- Frans. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Tumbleweed is mostly for tinkerers?
