Hi All , I am new to SUSE and also to this mailing list
I am trying to upgrade my SUSE 9.2 to SUSE 10.1 I cant upgrade my machine through internet because of frequent disconnects. So i am trying to download the iso to my machine and install. I tried to upgrade by extracting the iso to one of my drive and pointing the yast installer there ,but i am not able to install . I get error like unable to find the source medium ,
Is there any way that i can install through my local machine ?
Thanks in Advance
Vijay

Hi Vijay, Download the CD .iso images using bittorrent or wget (command line) or an ftp client that supports resuming of interrupted downloads. There are five OSS CD's plus an optional sixth CD which contains non-OSS packages. Once you've downloaded the images, be sure to verify their integrity by comparing the md5sums against the originals before proceeding. The original md5sums are posted on each mirror in the same directory as the images. To get the md5sums of your downloaded copies, 'cd' into the directory containing the .iso files and issue 'md5sum *.iso > md5sums.txt' (creates a .txt file containing the md5sums.) The following page has instructions and a script for creating an installation DVD image directly from the CD images: http://en.opensuse.org/Making_a_DVD_from_CDs I was not able to install from hard drive using the individual CD images, but I *was* able to do so using the 'extracted' DVD image. The script can create a hard-disk based installation source that is the /precursor/ to the DVD image. Read the script instructions for details. Note: When installing from a hard drive, do so from a spare drive (preferably) or partition that *will not be mounted during creation of the newly installed system.* If you don't, the installer will 'hiccup' when it tries to mount the already mounted (by the installer) source. Finally, I would not recommend "upgrading" 9.2 to 10.1 directly. Theoretically, you could upgrade 9.2 to 9.3, then 9.3 to 10.0 and then 10.0 to 10.1, but 'leap-frogging' past the intermediate versions is likely to yield unexpected and unwanted results. I've always had good results installing each version "fresh" and then copying personal data across, into the new user environment. hth & regards, Carl -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
