I have SuSE 7.1 running out of the box on without any problems on both
Toshiba Tecra 8100 and on the Satellite Pro.
Not strictly relevent, but last month we bought a Dell Power Edge 1550
server, sans operating suystem, and I was able to put SuSE7.1 straight on
to it with no messing or hassles - not something I'd like to even try with
any variety of Windoze!

I got a friend with a Dell Laptop, looks awesome, I just wish I could afford one :-). I am biased about the server arena, so will keep quiet. Well, just to mention that of course the support is out-sourced to Linuxcare, that is something to bare in mind... Personally I prefer Penguin Computing, as its a true Linux company, but then I am biased :-). Matt

I like Dell's and if you can afford one..an IBM box would be very nice. I am pretty set against Penguin because some of the Xsuse people I worked with interviewed there and their CTO is a bit of an ass or so I am told. He told them we don't innovate we just use what's there .. we are ONLY here to make money. Which is what companies are suppose to do..but at least VA gives back to the community in the form of employing developers. I would go with a well built White box. We can all give you lists of parts we have had good luck with...I personally have always had better luck with customer built white boxes. I would be interested in seeing such a list. -- Cheers, Jonathan

Post what you need the machine to do. What you are looking for. etc. Personally I suggest starting with the motherboard. Asus is the way I go given a choice. They keep the bioses up to date even for boards they haven't sold for years. Reminds me of the way IBM does things. Nick
See www.affordablecompters.com John High is the guy I usually work with. The do Suse Installs at good prices. Ruben On 2001.06.07 09:54:01 -0400 Nick Zentena wrote:
