I've seen this explained, don't remember where exactly. Could be the suse reference manual, or the support database. -- Richard Bos For those who have no home the journey is endless

Or look in the framebuffer documentation in the kernel source Documentation/fb/ dir. -- Mads Martin Jørgensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort." -- A. P. J.

Kernel 2.4.x recognises VGA frame buffer devices. Text mode works with 640x480 (vga=769) and 800x600 (vga=771), so you get a console screen of 100x37. XFree86 4.0.2 works in framebuffer mode 800x600 or higher. Here's a complete list: # VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x64k # vga=791 # VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x32k # vga=790 # VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x256 # vga=773 # VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x64k # vga=788 # VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x32k # vga=787 # VESA framebuffer console @ 800x600x256 # vga=771 # VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x64k # vga=785 # VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x32k # vga=784 # VESA framebuffer console @ 640x480x256 # vga=769 M
Thanks a lot ... but then I lost the funny picture
when running the boot process (start eth ... done,
etc.) What can I do to keep it and go to 1024*768.
It's working on my station but not on my notebbok ...
any idea ?

Try echo 0x0f01 > /proc/splash (as su root). Also, take a look at: http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/katlist.BOOT.html http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/katlist.BOOTLILO.html M
I am using xconsole to read in real time my FW log and all the information given by the system. I know how to modify the lenght and the widht of the screen (in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app_default/XConsole) but I don't know how to change the text configuration and the color(only for that screen). If someone can help me ? Thanks a lot ___________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? -- Un e-mail gratuit @yahoo.fr ! Yahoo! Courrier : http://fr.mail.yahoo.com
