[opensuse] 10.3 No java in FireFox after update to 3.0
Listmates: For some reason, FF has not java support after update to version 3.0. Here is an example link: http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=SHV&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=yes Is there something else that should be installed to make java in FF work like it used to? Any help would be appreciated. Radar information and thunderstorm cell movement is critical information this time of year in tornado alley. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. For the first time in many years I have am using FF which is installed in openSUSE. The version was upgraded to 3.0.1.2 a day or so ago. I am not having any troubles with viewing the radar mentioned above. Do you by any chance have (the extension) NoScript installed and/or do not have the correct settings in Preferences for Javascript and Java? Good point Basil. I did have flashblock installed and I have disabled it. Still no luck. I cannot view the above link at all. All I get is a black line across the middle of the screen and no RADAR loop. Here is what I see: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/screenshots/moz/FF3-no_RADAR_loop.jpg (124k) Once before we had java problems, but that was early on with 10.3. Since then no problems until this problem. I use the old fallback fix, it works sometimes when the path hits a dead end. (uninstall/reinstall java) -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Basil, Which Java do you have installed? I am on an x86-64 laptop and it only had the x86-64 package installed so I installed the java browser plugins which forced an update to the i586 sun java package. Still no luck, same result. The java I have installed is: 23:55 alchemy~> rpm -qa | grep -i java java-1_5_0-sun-plugin-1.5.0_update15-0.1 java-1_5_0-sun-1.5.0_update15-0.1 I would be interested to compare. -- David C. Hi, I didn't have flash in firefox prior to running update but now it works on your weather link. I have also got fireftp back at last. I've java-1_5_0-sun, java-1_6_0-sun, java-1_6_0-sun-plugin and java-1_7_0-icedtea on a 32 bit system. Thanks Dave, I think this issue may just apply to x86-64 boxes after the FF 3.0 update. Do you know of anybody with a working java and FF on x86-64 after this firefox update? -- David C. Sorry, not me. I am using a 32-bit system (and KDE3). I installed 11.0 as a fresh install from the GM DVD and am using FF and TB as installed by YaST in 11.0. The java installed is java-1_6_0-sun. I have not done anything to enhance either TB or FF (except to install NoScript and a couple of other extensions/themes in FF and TB ) so basically what I am running is FF and TB "out of the box". Perhaps David is correct in that the problem he is having is something which applies to the 86-64 version of 11.0.
