Seems to be that the package SuSEfirewall is driving me a little bit crazy because its config script is /etc/rc.firewall and nothing matched the ip masq howto. Can someone tell me where the docs for SuSEfirewall are or should i go with the standard stuff and uninstall the package? There is a .ps file somewhere that explains this, although I can't locate it at the moment. You best bet is to reinstall the package because IIRC after the installation, it will send mail to root with instructions. The email might still be there under root's account. It seems like you haven't setup forwarding of root's mail to a regular account. If you don't get the mail try uninstalling it and then install it again. I am not the sure whether the mail will be sent if you just reinstall. Judging by the location of your rc.firewall, you are probably using 6.3. There is an updated package for it. The location of the config file have been changed to the /etc/rc.config.d directory. If you are still having problems please tell me the interface name that you connect to your isp with (ie. ppp?, eth?, ippp?, etc..) and whether you have a permanent connection to the net or use dialup. I will be happy to send you a working configuration. BTW the SuSE firewall is quite comprehensive. I have tested it quite a bit and it works well. I always set mine up in yast in the config file. It is well commented. Charles Philip Chan wrote:

The same comments appears in the firewall config file itself too, but the original poster seem to have a hard time understanding it. My main concern is to be able to read if it actually send the command to masquerade and if the appropriate modules (such as RealAudio, IRC etc..) is loaded. It's a bit late in the game, and sorry if someone already mentioned it, but have you looked at http://linux-firewall-tools.com/linux/firewall/index.html ? It makes a really nice ipchains script and well documented. The DNS setup confused me a bit, so I just deleted all the lines and started over by watching the ipchains DENY messages in /var/log/messages. Robert Ziegler's book is good, too.
