Compression method has changed. rpm in <=15.1 can not read it. See the thread in opensuse-support from last week. ("on kernel install "error: unpacking of archive failed: cpio: Bad magic") You can: (1) upgrade to 15.2 (2) rebuild rpm from version 15.2 for 15.1 (3) borrow or steal Manfred's work on it at https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:manfred-h (4) wait for Jiri, who said he is checking on this, to get back to us (5) whine and complain <= my personal choice :) Ralph -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I really don't want to subscribe to yet another list .. So i looked it on the web and found it unhelpful. Surely there is a source that makes it clear what changes to the packaging method has been made?
You can:
(1) upgrade to 15.2
not bloody like;y! I see too many reports of things I use being unusable in 15.2.
(2) rebuild rpm from version 15.2 for 15.1
As how?
(3) borrow or steal Manfred's work on it at https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:manfred-h
I'll look into that
(4) wait for Jiri, who said he is checking on this, to get back to us
OK
(5) whine and complain <= my personal choice :)
Actually I'm not that good at whining and complaining, though you might not believe it.

I've been using this for a couple of years now and not had any problems.
I saw somewhere recently that a new compressor was being utilized and I believe it begins with 5.8.3 but not sure abot that. 5.8.4-1 and zstd error: Failed dependendies: Nothing provides rpmlib(PayloadIsZstd) <= 5.4.18-1 The newer kernels, I believe 5.8.2-3 was the last one which worked, appear to be generated using "zstd" for compression, but 15.1's rpm does not support that. cut&paste from various sources. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
