This is something I've been trying to figure out but cant. I want to be able to fax from my desktop and I know the software is there but not sure how to set it up. I went to the suse web sight read and downloaded the hylafax and the two tiff files. I set that up following the steps in the book. Still not able to fax, and there was something about "sendfax" package. I'm using suse 6.4 with 2.2.14 any help would be gratefull. Have a look at George Zeigler's HOWTO at http://www.firstnethou.com/gz/Qsuse.html - that might help. In order to use Halafax to fax from SuSE Linux you will need to: (1) have Halafax configured and running, (2) have the Java based SuSE fax client (package: susefax) running while you are printing to the fax queue. My preferred solution is, if you have the Gnome libraries installed, to use gfax. Gfax is a frontend to several fax packages including Hylafax. It replaces the lpr command with a script that passes print jobs to the regular lpr and faxes to the appropriate backend. Of course it will also popup a fax dialog box for you to enter in the fax info, etc. Charles -- ===================================================== One Net to rule them all, One Net to find them, One Net to bring them all, and with Linux bind them. ===================================================== -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
Hi, I tired to configure HylaFax by running Faxsetup from root login - but what i get is an message that "egetty" is not installed but at the same time it informs that this is not a serious problem either link the program if residing elsewhere to /sbin/egetty - however I couldn't find where egetty is installed. Any tips on getting "FaxSetup" to work will be most useful. TIA, - Maneesh Charles Philip Chan wrote:

Egetty is not needed to send or receive fax. It is only needed for 3rd party developer to integrate voice capabilities. Did you read the README.SUSE file in /usr/doc/packages/hylafax? There are detailed instructions there on how to set it up.
