I did a fresh install also but I did a remove and reinstall anyway. No effect.
2. Do a fresh install and see if that helps.
I need the system more than I need sound. Another install is a last resort.
3. Reboot, but when it asks for boot options type (without the quotation marks) "acpi=off" and see if that helps, could be some irq issues.
If I reboot, I'll try the option but I doubt it's an irq issue. The sound card worked under 10.3.
Intel sound cards have always been my nemesis. My soundcard did not work in 10.3.
Mine did. That's why I'm so frustrated.
BTW, I am not an expert by any means, I am just a hobbyist user.
No problem. I get my best help from non-professionals.
HTH.
Would you send me a thumbnail sketch of your sound setup? I still think my problem is some gross oversight on my part.

I have the same or very similar card in my Toshiba laptop. I cannot hear any

I'm having problems setting up sound in 11.0. I think all the options are confusing me. The YaST Sound Configuration module tells me:
82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller • Configured as sound card number 0 • Driver snd-hda-intel
I set both the Master & PCM volume sliders to 67 but Test produces no sound. The help screen just confused me more. All I'm looking for is a preferably simple setup that will allow most applications to produce basic sound. If you know of such a setup, please point me to it. Any assistance will be appreciated.

--Keith Thanks. I've been at this, plus a couple of other things, since about 2 am. I'm getting groggy. I'm going to take a break and let my subconscious work on the problem. I may be gone for several hours.

Good luck. Sometimes I find that's the best remedy -- sleep on it and then I get the answers!

After sleeping on it, I logged in to do some more troubleshooting of the sound problem. When I logged in, I got the "beep" sound. I could just barely hear it but it was there. I put in an audio CD and got the same thing, very low sound but there. In the sound config module, I set both Master and PCM to a volume level of 90. This generated enough volume for me to hear the CD but still not loud enough.I used the volume control applet to set a volume level of 85. This is loud enough. Unfortunately, I have no idea how the sound got fixed. I guess I should just consider this a gift from the gods and press on. Thanks to those of you who helped. Just a guess. rcalsasound restart was missing from previous attempts, and boot did that for you. BTW, I have the same sound driver and in 10.3 sound level was somewhat low before I added "model=" parameter to /etc/modprobe.d/sound. This time I would have to check what is new, as with 11.0 after change and "rcalsasound restart' I got driver crash. It seems that driver is buggy. If parameter is unknown that should produce one message, but not avalanche of other complaints. -- Regards, Rajko http://en.opensuse.org/Portal needs helpful hands. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
