Re: [opensuse] Making a dev
HI all, I need to set up a dev file and have it stay even when I reboot. I'm trying to set up a web cam so I need /dev/video0 and /dev/video1. I don't know if I need anything else. When I run lsusb I get this: Bus 003 Device 008: ID 0c45:613e Microdia PC Camera (SN9C120) The correct driver is on my system. But when I run "camelot" I get this error: [i_v4l]: Cannot open device /dev/video0: No such file or directory [webcam]: Initializing V4L failed, check settings [vloopback]: vloopback open failed: No such file or directory When I run "luvcview" I get this: linux-k2k3:~ # luvcview luvcview 0.2.4 SDL information: Video driver: x11 A window manager is available Device information: Device path: /dev/video0 ERROR opening V4L interface: No such file or directory Any ideas? Thanks! Hi Mike, I have the same microdia webcam. It is one of the webcams which is difficult to get working. In 10.3 and 11.0 I had it working with luvcview and mplayer but after a hard disc breakdown and a new install I am as far as you at the moment. There is a Microdia group but they have given up working on the SN9C120 camera's. I am still trying to find out how to get it working and will keep you informed. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

James, Got video today with my Microdia camera. Here is what I did. By the way, I am running 11.1 KDE 4.3x Had a look into my old data and for the moment I have at least a video image. Please check if you have following gstreamer files: gstreamer-0_10 gstreamer-0_10-plugins-bad gstreamer-0_10-plugins-base gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good gstreamer-0_10-plugins-good -extra gstreamer-0_10-plugins-ugly gstreamer-0_10-utils libgstapp-0_10-0 libgstinterfaces-0_10-0 libgstreamer-0_10 That is at least the list I always try to have. Further try to get everything with should give you v4l2 action. Do not know if that is 100% necessary but it was some versions ago ;). Download videoview from http://www.linux-projects.org/downloads/videoview-bin-20070721.tar.gz and install videoview. I just got the *videoview out of the tar.gz file and use it without any problems. in konsole : videoview, accept the license and press "open". Just for the beginning press "start preview" and with my setup I have a video image from my camera. Working on Skype ;). All the best Constant -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
