[opensuse] MS Lync and video conferencing
I just installed pidgin and pidgin-sipe on openSUSE 12.3. I was actually able to access our company's MS message system. I can do chat and IM. Quite happy with that. Does anyone know if it is possible to do video with MS Lync users from a Linux client? I searched a bit but nothing looked like it. Maybe I am using the wrong search phrases. -- Yours sincerely, Roger Oberholtzer Ramböll RST / Systems Office: Int +46 10-615 60 20 Mobile: Int +46 70-815 1696 roger.oberholtzer@ramboll.se ________________________________________ Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O. I (and my coworkers) would also be very interested in this, and also have had no luck with my Googling...

A bit of an update here: Got a visit from a guy in IT who asked if I was running a SIPE client somewhere. Seems that after I installed pidgin-sipe, the company's Lync server started getting something like 10 messages a second from my system. I could not get him to tell me what the messags were. But I was informed that I had to stop this. They were not ammused as it effected company-wide communications. He did say that they Googled the message they were getting and that the cure was to update to a newer version of SIPE. So maybe I need to see what versions are in the OBS packages. -- Yours sincerely, Roger Oberholtzer Ramböll RST / Systems Office: Int +46 10-615 60 20 Mobile: Int +46 70-815 1696 roger.oberholtzer@ramboll.se ________________________________________ Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O. If it helps out, these are the versions of the sipe plugin I'm using: libpurple-plugin-sipe-1.14.0-2.1.1.i586 pidgin-sipe-1.14.0-2.1.1.i586 Running oS 12.3, Lync server 2010. I'm the Lync admin on our campus, and it seems to work fine for me, doesn't cause me any headaches with the server :) Actually, come to think of it, I don't think I've ever had issues with Pidgin/sipe and Lync... Chris

Hmm. Those are the exact same versions I am running on oS 12.3. And the Lync server is 2010. What makes me curious is why they did not want to tell me the messages they got on the server. Something ain't right... -- Yours sincerely, Roger Oberholtzer Ramböll RST / Systems Office: Int +46 10-615 60 20 Mobile: Int +46 70-815 1696 roger.oberholtzer@ramboll.se ________________________________________ Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O. Yeah, it sounds as if they just don't want to work with anything non-Lync? Sounds very non-helpful... :/
