[opensuse] gconfd = ?
Hi, Can someone explain what is gconfd needed for? /opt/gnome/lib/GConf/2/gconfd-2 is running on my system, and I find such lines in my /var/log/messages: Mar 4 23:22:54 nbad11 gconfd (barna-5995): starting (version 2.14.0), pid 5995 user 'barna' Mar 4 23:22:54 nbad11 gconfd (barna-5995): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/opt/gnome/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only configuration source at position 0 What is starting this process? Why? gconfd-2 is part of the gconf2 package, which is, according to its description: "This is the development version of GConf, the GNOME configuration database. It is used by the GNOME 2.x Desktop platform" I am NOT using gnome, but kde. If I want to remove this package, smart wants to remove also (among others): firefox, openoffice, gimp Thanks Daniel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
These programs use part of Gnome whether or not you are using Gnome as your desktop or not. If you remove a piece then the house falls down. It doesn't hurt your system so why not leave it as is and use Gimp, Firefox and other programs that have GTK interfaces? :D - ben On Mar 4, 2007, at 4:38 PM, Daniel Barna wrote: What is starting this process? But you are using some gnome apps... therefore, you need gconf. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
