Running SUSE Linux 10.0, x86. For some unknown reason the very obvious ping6 didn't worked: linux:~ # ping6 fe80:0:0:0:20f:eaff:fed2:4e88 connect: Invalid argument any ideas why? (quick look at Google and man didn't helped)

man ping: -I interface address Set source address to specified interface address. Argument may be numeric IP address or name of device. When pinging IPv6 link- local address this option is required. jbarnes@shuttle:~$ ping6 -I eth0 fe80::230:1bff:feab:2a8a PING fe80::230:1bff:feab:2a8a(fe80::230:1bff:feab:2a8a) from fe80::230:1bff:feab:2a8a eth0: 56 data bytes 64 bytes from fe80::230:1bff:feab:2a8a: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.034 ms

It's been a a while since I've done it, but I seem to recall you have to specify which address or port you're sending from. With IPv6, you actually have multiple IPs.

The interface (-I option) should be specified when ping6 is used for IPv6 local address. --- this should work ------- ping6 -I eth0 fe80:0:0:0:20f:eaff:fed2:4e88
