Dear list, I tried to change driver in x.org from nv to nvidia. Since I don't have the suse-script in my online update that's how I did it: init 3 NVIDIA..pck1.run (said something about unknown kernel, building it from source..., install, update xorg.conf) init 5 Works great but only for a few minutes. If I start sax or nvtv it freezes immediatly just surfing with firefox I have some time before I have to do a cold start. X / KDE is frozen only the mouse is still working. What to do? Who managed to get NVIDIA to work? Is it somehow related to "tainted" flag in kernel? Thanks for help.

Cool, finally somebody seeing similar problems like I did... Look at https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=141241 and post the details about your hardware/bios configuration. Cheers. l8er manfred
Hello Manfred!
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=141241
and post the details about your hardware/bios configuration.
The Link is leading to Bug "KOTD locks up under heavy I/O load". Is this right? There is something about proprietary Driver and I can say I don't have any problems with open source nvidia module. Johannes

Yes, that's the entry I meant. Can you please send me the details about your system (run "hwinfo" as root). FWIW, I have these problems on an ASUS A8V (BIOS version 2.13 and 2.19) mainboard with an AMD 64 X2 3800+ dual core CPU. When the problem happens at your site, is the machine still ping'able? Ie., can you login from another computer? If so, please run the following command "strace -p `pidof X`"; for me, the X server ran in an endless loop waiting for some event which is never generated (see https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=61918). TIA, cheers. l8er manfred
Second try. Mailserver didn't accept attached hwinfo.txt-file (to large). So for the list without. Manfred, I sent the file to your personal account. Hello!

Dislike me I'm supplied with older stuff: ASUS A7V (via chipset), AMD Athlon, Geforce 2 MX 400.

No Network available. The hwinfo output is attached.
