Having got my desktop at work up to 9.1, I'm now using k3b to burn cds. It works well. But in sending a CD to a Windows user, where I am seeing filenames as I recorded them under linux: halliwell-phillipps_no_1311_recto.tif But I'm getting: HALLIWELL-PHILLIPPS_NO_1000.TIF when reading under Windows. So it's not only truncating, it's changing my numbers ... I didn't seem to get this when using mkisofs directly under SuSE 8.2 with options like mkisofs -o [filename].iso -R -J -hfs [filename] Anyone seen similar problems and know the short version of the fix? I believe that you need to include 'joliet' extension for windoz to understand the file names. note: shooting from the hip here, but that works for me. gud luk :^) -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Thanks Patrick - yes, that's what I would expect. According to k3b, though, it's supposed to be set up to call mkisofs with joliet-long already set. I'll see if I can sort it out, Best Fergus

No, I was wrong, you need to tick a check box by clicking on the 'burn' button and then selecting the 'Filesystem' tab, where there's a 'Generate Joliet extensions' option. Sorry to all, should have seen that. Fergus

Even Joliet can only handle names of a certain size (32 chars?). We often have to burn CDs as UDF format to get longer names. (We burn them from a M$ platform). I don't know if SUSE/K3B can burn CDs in UDF format or not. Windows 2K and WinXP can both read them. FYI: I think UDF is the standard format for DVD drives. Greg -- Greg Freemyer
