[opensuse] Can not update/remove Firefox
Hello everybody, I wonder if someone would be so kind to help me with my problem. Somewhile ago I tried to update Firefox which did not work because of some MIME-Error that Brasero Caused[1]. However I could fix that and was also able to update Firefox. But then at somepoint I had two versions of firefox installed (at least YaST said so) which seemed strange to me but I as it kept working I didn't care much about it. However, I tried now to update Firefox to 2.0.0.14 and everything got completely out of hand. The first update resulted in some kind of broken installation (e.g. I could not bookmark new sites, etc.) so I tried to completely remove both installations of firefox and make a clean install. One of the two installations could be removed, the other is displaying an error message[2] when trying to remove it. It seems that firefox is working right now, however I would still like to fix this issue. Has anybody any clue on how to fix this? Thanks in advance, Valentin Sawadski Footnotes: [1] http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522786 [2] Usage: usr/bin/update-mime-database [-hvV] MIME-DIR No directories in update-desktop-database search path could be processed and updated. error: %postun(MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.12-5.1.i586) scriptlet failed, exit status 1 2008-04-30 18:32:24 MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.14-0.1.i586.rpm install failed rpm output: Usage: usr/bin/update-mime-database [-hvV] MIME-DIR No directories in update-desktop-database search path could be processed and updated. error: %postun(MozillaFirefox-2.0.0.12-5.1.i586) scriptlet failed, exit status 1

I didn't really understood how you got *two* firefox. *I* usually have two, one installed with YaST and the other by hand, simply un-archived in my own ~/Document folder. to remove the latter, I just have to remove the ~/Document/firefox folder If, for any reason, you can't remove the first one with YaST, nor "rpm -e", I would go to YaST, search for firefox and look at the file list (or get it with rpm). With in hand this file list and as root, remove any file, don't forget to rename (better not remove) any ".mozilla.." file, then try rebuild the rpm database (something like "rpm --rebuild", look at the man page) hope this could make rid of the firefox :-) jdd -- Jean-Daniel Dodin Président du CULTe www.culte.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Slightly related? On my x86_64 machine after I installed 10.3 I ended up with two pango32 packages. I cannot delete either of them, and I cannot update (one of) them. It is irritating and I do not know if it matters. Would be nice to fix it though ==John ffitch -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Remove both Firefox packages manually with rpm -e --noscripts MozillaFirefox and reinstall the latest one again with yast/zypper/whatever. Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Try this first: rpm -qa|grep -i mozill Then use rpm -e with the correct version of mozilla that you want removed. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thank you all very much, the second installation is now gone! Thanks, Valentin
