I have an IDE Travan TR4 Tape drive. It is the primary IE device on the secondary channel (hdc). Using KDAT, I have tried to mount it as dev/tape, dev/hdc0, 1, etc... How do I figure out what device type it is to mount it? If you can point me the right direction I'll RTFM. Thanks. db

The short answer is that you can't mount it. It is a character device, not a block device. The longer answer is that there probably are packages that fake it and make it look like a extremely slow block device for specific formats (e.g., tar, cpio). HTH, Jeffrey

I've noticed that with my setup (which appears to be similar to your's), the drive ends up being /dev/ht0 (in SuSE 9.1) or /dev/st0 (in SuSE 8.2). -- Using SuSE Linux
