KDE errors/bugs?
Hello List, Hopefully someone can eliminate the latest bug introduced in the latest KDE updates. It seems that when trying to send mail or queue mail from the compose window in KMail, it crashes with a sig 11. The same thing happens when trying to open a new project in KDevelop. I also find that KEdit has the same problem. Seems all of them share the same bug and since they all show up with a reference to /usr/lib/libqt-mt.so.3, I would guess it has something to do with that? There has already been mail about this, a few days ago, but I have not seen any resolution concerning it. I am not sure if this is a bug introduced from SuSE or KDE, but from the online patches, I am going to point a finger at SuSE for the moment. Here are a couple of the errors I got from my .xsession-errors file: *** KMail got signal 11 (Crashing) KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2 KCrash: Application Name = kmail path = <unknown> pid = 21986 Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy *** KMail got signal 11 (Crashing) KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2 KCrash: Application Name = kmail path = <unknown> pid = 22030 No parent pixmap for child widget QViewportWidget KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2 KCrash: Application Name = kdevelop path = <unknown> pid = 22677 Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy *** KMail got signal 11 (Crashing) KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2 KCrash: Application Name = kmail path = <unknown> pid = 22449 error stat'ing fd 3: Bad file descriptor Thanks for your help and information. Did you update to KDE 3.1 by accident? KMail is uber broken in 3.1beta2. 2. After installing anything KDEish did you run SuSEconfig and ldconfig? Try both of the commands in #2 and see if this fixes your issue. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I tell you what you should see.

Try both of the commands in #2 and see if this fixes your issue. ===================== Actually Ben, these were patches downloaded and installed by YOU just tonite. I had read about a couple of folks having some problems a few days ago, but didn't find any type of resolution for anything. Of course, YOU always runs SuSEconfig and I have run it since the update for other program updates I did later. I haven't run ldconfig yet, but will on your suggestion. Hopefully it will be that simple to fix. Don't like all these little bugs. :o)

This is caused by a bug (s?) in kdelibs. Version 3.0.4-5 caused me all the grief, I had downloaded -4 previously, so I reinstalled these (kdelibs3, kdelibs3-devel, kdelibs3-devel-doc) with the oldpackage switch, and it is stable again. Thanks Joe, this seems to have fixed the problems with KMail and KDevelop for now. Thanks. This was to be my next plan of attack, to reinstall all the older files before the bug, but your suggestion just cuts down the number of files to install. KEdit still won't start, but there are enough editors to go around I can live without that one right now! Patrick -- --- KMail v1.4.3 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206
