Hi Friends., I am having winXP installed and few days ago I installed SuSE linux on my laptop. All went fine. Once I went inside the linux OS without any problem but when I try to log in for the next time into linux it shows a blank screen at the start with message "Error 17: cannot mount partition". Luckily I am able to go inside windows. Now, got annoyed with linux installation I want to completely remove linux from my hard disk. (already tried with the SuSE linux CD-1 to fix the problem but fruitless) How can I uninstall linux without any problem to windows? Please help me. Thanks., Lisa --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

I would do it from Windows. Don't try to "uninstall" Linux, just boot to Windows and use it to reformat the Linux partition. You can put back the Windows boot loader if you want but I am not sure how to do that with the latest Windows. The last I used was Win98 and I think the command was something like "fdisk /mbr". Use Google or some Windows support group to find the answer.

Using Computer Management (Administrative Tools) you will see the drive in the Disk Manager. Just remove the Linux Partitions and create new Windows (FAT32/NTFS) partitions.

Do not use "fdisk /mbr" with Windows XP - It will break it. If your laptop doesn't boot into Windows after removing the Linux partition, ask on a Windows support group how to reinstall the Windows boot loader. You could always try Acronis Boot Manager, it works quite nicely but is not free. Albert -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. The information you've asked for can be found here, Lisa: (with one exception*) http://www.theeldergeek.com/recovery_console.htm *The _real_ solution is to roll up your sleeves, stay connected to all the smart, funny and helpful people here who will help you fix the *Linux* installation. Running XP is like being seduced into sleeping with the devil because he's cute and looks good at parties. If you want *real* security and stability in your computing life, you'll put some effort into hooking up with the one that's a little "hard to get." Life is definitely better with Linux and SUSE is a great distribution. Don't be discouraged over a minor 'hiccup', there's plenty of help here. All you have to do is ask. regards, - Carl
