can't boot LVM partition - SuSE 9.0
Hey, I needed to run a program that only works in Windows, so I installed Win98 in the first partition of the first drive (previously a FAT16 partition with MS-DOS 6.2 solely to play old text adventures on) and, of course, it rewrote the boot sector so Win98 always loads instead of my bootloader (GRUB, I think?). Now I can't get my Linux system to load, and the fact that I have it set up as a LVM across two hard disks is making it more difficult I think. I tried going into install off the DVD, and to repair installation. It tests the system part way and concludes there is no root partition. I went in under Rescue System, although I don't really know what I'm doing there. I guess I don't know how to get my fs mounted. I did fdisk and it told me that I have a partition /dev/hda2 with ID 8e and Linux LVM system, /dev/hdb1 ID 83 Linux system (I think this is a small ext3 system from which the main LVM system is loaded at boot time), a swap system at /dev/hdb2, and the other Linux LVM at /dev/hdb3. So I guess what I need to know is, how do I load my good ol' normal LVM partition from the basic Rescue System, and then how do I rewrite the boot sector to start with my bootloader instead of Windows? Thanks, I appreciate the help. -Jess

a remark : maybe, if partitioning a HDisk, it is handy to use HDA1 for small [ say 100 mb ] /boot partition then, the 2nd partition HDA2 for M$ finally, all Linux partitions after that? -- best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________
