[opensuse] 10.3 CD question
I'm about to start an install for my laptop to upgrade it to 10.3. I've discovered that in the weeks since the warranty has expired, my CD/DVD drive has lost the ability to read burned DVDs, so I'm going to have to do the install from CDs. However, it looks like there's only 1 CD in the distro for this? How can that be? We were at 5 with 10.2. What am I missing--or--how do I get the extra stuff that isn't there? Thanks! Hi, I haven't upgraded from 10.2 to 10.3. But, in my experience, those other four 10.2 CDs likely contained a complete set of packages. The CD you have now is probably either for KDE or GNOME, i586 or x86_64, etc. It probably has just the packages you need to get started. If later you find that something is missing then you can use YaST to download it. Mike On 5/26/08, Simon Roberts <thorpflyer@yahoo.com> wrote:

There is no 10.3 CD. You are seeing a limited version. You will have to look on the wiki the instructions for installing without a dvd: for instance, install/upgrade using a network repository. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Oh, that sucks, I guess I'll have to muck around and do a network install instead. Tedious mucking about with cables before the wireless stuff is installed. Anyway, many thanks for the info; that saved me a lot of wasted time messing about with the wrong install! Cheers, Simon --- "Carlos E. R." <robin.listas@telefonica.net> wrote:

Well, you could split the iso and burn the pieces to separate cd and reassemble on your off-line machine's hard-drive. Mount the iso and copy to a folder. Then do the same as a network install from your hard-drive. Instructions are on opensuse.org web site. ps: Please refrain from top-posting and full quoting, http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_mailing_list_netiquette#Quoting http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_mailing_list_netiquette#Bottom_post thanks, -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I told you to look it up in the wiki, there are more than one methods to install without cd and/or dvd, like from hd, usb, etc. Hint: http://en.opensuse.org/Installation - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
