Hello, The thing you download is live CD with Gnome desktop (you just boot from it), if you want to install a system on your computer you have to download installation DVD from the same page you got live one. Burn on a CD and then boot from it. You have to create new partitions for Linux (ext and swap). You have to make sure you know how to do that, otherwise you can screw you windows system. The rest itself is pretty easy, just follow the instructions. Forgive me, but just to avoid language problems, I assume you meant he needs to burn it on a DVD. Attempting to burn the DVD image onto a CD will definitely fail, of course. Just because this might be confusing across languages, I thought someone should clarify that. Oops, indeed! I meant to burn it on DVD. Thanks for pointing out. Mattias - Sergey just sent you the links to the DVD. Sorry, our confusion is that the live CD has GNOME in the filename But the installation DVD does not reference a desktop in the filename at all. So it is best to throw away the image you downloaded before, and follow the link Sergey just sent you to get a new image. Of course the download will probably take longer, but this will get you what you need. Let us know if you need more after you get the image! For CD's it will be 32 bit http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/iso/cd/openSUSE-10.3-GM-KDE-i... 64 bit http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/iso/cd/openSUSE-10.3-GM-KDE-x... You need to know what kind of computer you are running, to download the right one. What you already downloaded was the CD version of openSUSE with GNOME desktop. The links I gave you are for KDE. I didn't get second question, sorry! Cheers! Sergey - I think he's trying to read the Install CD from within Windows, and isn't able to figure out what to do with the CD from there. Mattias - Yes, I see what you mean. Sorry, I haven't looked at that in a long time. You are entirely correct. What you have is the installation CD, with the Gnome packages on the CD. So, assuming that it downloaded correctly, and burned to the CD correctly, and assuming you can in fact boot CDs, then the CD you downloaded and burned should work. As Sergey said previously, you need to boot directly from the CD. If you are unable to do that, then: You might try burning a second CD. You might try checking your BIOS settings to make sure that it is set to boot from CD before booting from hard drive. Some systems will boot from CD, but only try it if the hard drive has no OS on it, so maybe you need to re-order the boot order in the BIOS. If that fails, I'd try re-downloading the image again. Sergey just sent you the links to the KDE CD image - you might try that instead too. Best of luck, Glen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Maybe the burned CDs are fine. The problem here might be the boot order in BIOS. The BIOS probably doesn't have braille support, hence the difficulty in booting the CD. Ok, you're right. So you download CD version, not the DVD ones. It is dependent on which kind of machine you are running, 32 Bit http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/iso/dvd/openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD-... 64 bit http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/iso/dvd/openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD-... or PowerPC http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/iso/dvd/openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD-... I am also a blind user, but not using braille yet. Braille is supported including braille monitor. See program Orca. ALT + F2 and type orca. But, in 10.3, the library to support Orca, called at-spi is broken. There is a patch coming soon. It has been tested and will release to general users soon. So some things may not work correctly. After you install opensuse, please let me know if you have any difficulty because I am keeping track of issues for the GNOME team.
