promise has released a partial open source driver ... You can use it ... get it from www.promise.com

Regards /Mattias have exactly the same problem, let me tell something I have figured out:
The module on the installation cd does not work; the one that you can
download from the Promise website is meant for suse 8.0 but it DOES NOT
work with 8.1.
However, there is a Semi-Open Source (?) generic driver that can be
downloaded from the Promise website.
The solution might be: compile this driver, put the module on a floppy
an feed it to the installer when it asks for drivers (to get the
installer at least to start you must give it those parameters:
ide0=0x1f0,0x3f6,14 ide1=0x170,0x376,15 ide2=0 ide3=0 ide4=0 ide5=0
ide6=0 ide7=0 ide8=0 ide9=0) These parameters are written in the
readme of the Promise website driver for 8.0.
What I do not have figured out as yet is how should I exactly compile
and install the source driver, since the instructions enclosed are only
about installing it into an already installed kernel. If you, or
somebody else, are able to figure out a solution, please let me know.
TIA
