I'm trying to decide which desktop mngr to use. kde seems to have more opportunities, but slower. (When i first opened KDE, a setting about animations popped up. I selected the default, with more animations around than i need. Now i want to change that setting, but couldn't find where to. Does anyone know?) Konqueror seems better than Nautilius. In Nautilius, I can't find a file by just writing the first few characters, and can't open a terminal window by Ctrl-T with the current path. Will Nautilius be able to do these jobs? Anyway, i think i'll choose Gnome. But i had two crashes at the same day. I figured out the case : I use Korganizer on Gnome. But if i forget it open when logging out Gnome, i have a crash. Nothing works and i have to plug-out the pc. Is that a problem about using a KDE app at Gnome? Does anyone know an organizer for Gnome as much better as korganizer?

ISTR that it's in the KDE control centre.

Neither of these seems to be possible in nautilus ATM. However, you could use a different file manager - I use the Rox filer (rox.sourceforge.net) as well as nautilus, because I find nautilus too bloated for everyday use. Rox allows you to do both of these things and many more, without the huge overheads of Konq. Personally, one of the reasons I avoid KDE is Konqueror!

The big organiser app for Gnome is Ximian's Evolution. However, you might find this is a little overkill - it depends what you're using it for. At the other extreme, I use JPilot, because I mainly use a desktop organizer to sync my palm device to. I use Evolution as organizer and to sync my palm; that way I can share my contacts between my palm and evolution... however I have to confess that I can sync with evolution only 1 out of 12 times I try (I'd never beed able to sync with JPilot).
