Thanks fellas. I rely on this PC for my daily work of updating webpages etc so I won't be installing KDE4. -- Kindest regards, Clive. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/c.rogers/ Fighting for darker skies. I saw a KDE4 demo on Saturday and didn't think much of what I saw. While there are some technical improvements, it seemed dumbed down. I tried it but it felt more like Windows Vista just like how I think
all KDE's feel... like windows... It was far from complete and usable
and I even installed all the packages. I guess the best way to try it
is just to install it yourself.... Anyways back to Gnome and Xfce for
me :)

No, it's not complete, let alone stable. Unless you are a coder the KDE 4 packages there are today are useful only so you will be able to say "coo, haven't they come a long way?" in a couple of months' time. It's not even useful for you to report bugs against them yet. We're currently having a KDE 4 hack week (see my blog on kdedevelopers.org or the news item on news.opensuse.org about it) to give it all some concentrated love but as a .0 is a major refit, there's lots still to do - it's not something like KDE 3.5, which was usable at alpha1 stage. That's me telling it the way it is, it's not behind schedule, but neither will I raise inaccurate expectations of where we are today. OK, thanks for your update. The reason I was asking is that in YAST there seems to be quite a few KDE4 files/apps loaded from GUI/KDE. Are these needed in KDE3 ? Could these be the source of some of the instabilities that some of us are seeing with the PC locking up so tight that the only way out of it is to reset ? -- Kindest regards, Clive. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/c.rogers/ Fighting for darker skies. What lockups are you getting? If they are caused by "Compiz" I would recommend installing KDE 3.5.8 from the Build Service which eliminates some of the issues I had when running KDE with Compiz. On another note, can one of the KDE Designers unveil if 11.0 will be KDE by default (as 10.3 was), and will the next version of SLED be KDE instead of Gnome by default? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

On another note Clive. Some of the KDE 4 libs are needed because opensuse 10.3 introduced us to some KDE 4 applications integrated within our 3.5.x (including Konquest.. which is my favorite game). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

When I tried to start YaST update Yast starts to look at the repositories then I am getting this. I would have done but just after I sent this message the PC locked up and would not even allow me to get back in to the x-server (KDE) so I decided to completely re-install 10.3 just incase I had blown it away with all the changes I had made to get the machine stable and the GForce graphics card. Hi Clive, GeForce graphic card, which one? It seems that you are not alone with lockups.
