SuSE 9.0 KDE 3.1 (default) How do you remove the "Start New Session" and "Lock Screen" buttons on the K Menu? Also, is it possible to remove the "Trash" shortcut from the desktop? Thanks, Chris

If you are taking about the Logout/Lock applet, you will see on the left hand side of the icons a bar. Click right on it and you will be given the option to delete it. The Thrash shortcut can be deleted as far as I'm aware without any problems. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

If your talking about the bar that says "KDE 3.1" on the K Menu, if you right (or left click) anywhere on it, it executes the icon to the right of it (meaning there is no right click available on the K Menu). I can remove all the icons on the K Menu using the Menu Editor except for Start New Session, Lock Screen, Logout, and Run Command. If you right click the Trash shortcut, there is no delete command. If you shift click it and then press the Delete key, it says "You can't trash the trash bin". Thanks, Chris

My fault should have read your question properly. No I dont think you can remove those entries in the Kmenu. To remove the Trash bin, have a look under you home directory for a directory called 'Desktop'. You should be able to delete it there. Or you should be able to drag and drop it into another folder using konqueror. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------

If you can't remove them, can I at least disable their functionality somehow? Thanks for the help, Chris

I was able to remove the "Start New Session" button by editing the /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/Xservers file so that it looks like this... :0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X vt7 #:1 local reserve /usr/X11R6/bin/X :1 vt8 #:2 local reserve /usr/X11R6/bin/X :2 vt9 #:3 local reserve /usr/X11R6/bin/X :3 vt10 #:4 local reserve /usr/X11R6/bin/X :4 vt11 #:5 local reserve /usr/X11R6/bin/X :5 vt12 I'm still searching for a way to remove the "Lock Screen" button.
