Still having problems with Nessus/nmap on SuSE 9.0
Hello, everyone. This is starting to get very frustrating. Due to an alleged problem in the default SuSE 9.0 kernel, nmap does not function correctly. As such, Nessus, a tool we rely on here to test servers before they go live, does not detect hosts very well. Mads just posted an rpm of nmap 3.50 for me to try, and although it installs just fine, the problems with Nessus calling nmap still persist. Thus far, I have been in contact with SuSE tech support who tell me this is beyond the scope of their installation support. I have submitted a bug report through the feedback page on the SuSE site, but received no word back. The nessus mailing list had a couple of ideas, but mostly it was "Complain to SuSE and get them to fix their kernel". The best option looked like a change to the nmap options prior to compilation, but I get an error that prevents it from ./config-ing. Mads' new rpm of nmap3.50 installs OK, but it looks like he didn't change the options to get around the kernel problem, and installing the rpm doesn't help me fix my ./config error. Does anyone have any idea at all when this is likely to get fixed ? Here is a link to more info on the problem: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-security/2003-Dec/0383.html Bye for now, Stuart.

Have a lok at the source rpm ( if Mads had uploaded that as well) then adjust your config parameters and recompile the src rpm is an option I can suggest Other then that I stand behind the sayin in my sig :-) -- Togan Muftuoglu | Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer | Please reply to the list; http://susefaq.sf.net | Please don't put me in TO/CC.
