Hi everyone. I am the computer teacher. We have a samba network with Linux and w98 machines. Some kids are intent on chatting during lesson time. is there any way I can knock their machine out sitting at the server or deny access to certain addresses at certain times? 7.3, samba, squid, bind8, badly set up security etc. etc. Thanks, Steve.
Yes, you just need to learn how to use iptables (since you have kernel 2.4.x) Start by installing the package SuSEfirewall2 (I think there's a YOU update too, don't forget to check) and setting it up to block all chat, always. Then once you learn iptables you can run your own custom config At 03:34 PM 2/7/2002 +0100, you wrote:

But I do not think it's the best from a security point of view. Better using ssh. Btw, if your LAN is connected to the internet via a gateway, you can set up a firewall with iptables there. It is not that hard and there is a lot of information on the internet. Praise
The easiest solution is to just unplug the network when you don't want them messing around.... ---------------------rhad On 08-Feb-02 jon@fl.net.au wrote:
