I suppose it is the responsibility of Google itself to build and distribute that RPM. I'm not sure oS can do that - what license does it have? - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. True, but if the source comes out (which I hope does) we will be good to go. AFAIK, proprietary, there is no info in the files they produce, the cron job (apt one is for debian) says bsd -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) openSUSE 11.3 (x86_64) Kernel 2.6.34-12-default up 9 days 21:13, 2 users, load average: 0.09, 0.08, 0.02 GPU GeForce 8600 GTS Silent - Driver Version: 256.52 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

<snip> Was there not ,once upon a time, a way to install ".deb" files on Suse? I seem to remember that from the dark ages. The 64 bit version is supposed to be just a .deb file to install as if it were a rpm file. But of course it doesn't. Boxee, and some other's are doing this sort of thing, that is, going Debian rather than rpm. Seems as if Ubuntu is doing a better pr job and a much better job of explaining how many users they have and how many will use whatever it is that is being packaged than our organization is currently doing. Just as desktop Linux grows up , it appears the world believes it has instead just quietly dies. Guess we need to go back to whining, and fighting amongst ourselves and among distros. Even the tech press, who , by this time really ought to know better seem to buy into this idea, since we are quiet, we must not exist anymore. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I seem to remember a way to install debs as well. In fact I couldn't imagine what plugin this thread was complaining about because the Google Voice plugins were working in both Firefox and Chrome on my Ubuntu machine. It wasn't till I turned my chair to the OpenSuse machine that I saw it was not working. Wasn't there a dep to rpm utility somewhere? There is not much in that .deb. -- _____________________________________ At one time I had a Real Sig. Already tried Alien. It builds a package, but it won't install. It claims libcrypto.so.0.0.8 and libssl are needed. Even going out and installing those packages does not not work, as they continue to be shown as fail dependencies. -- _____________________________________ At one time I had a Real Sig. If you read the original post and bugzilla, you will see that he is already building an rpm, successfully, and he explains how. He is simply requesting that such an RPM is build and distributed, officially, by openSUSE. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 11.2 x86_64 "Emerald" GM (Elessar))

Thanks Carlos ;) Yes, there are links on the forum thread to the ones I built, all users so far have no issues with it working. -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) openSUSE 11.3 (x86_64) Kernel 2.6.34-12-default up 10 days 2:47, 7 users, load average: 0.10, 0.05, 0.04 GPU GeForce 8600 GTS Silent - Driver Version: 256.52 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Cannonical is a for profit business and they have worked on the Ubuntu brand to the point that seems to the distro of choice for many former Windows users, I don't know if they're doing the same as Novell and selling a business version, or just making money from support contracts.

Hi, I built myself a package for opensuse 11.3, feel free to download it from my web site www.teodori.org. It works on my system http://www.teodori.org/repository/utilities/opensuse11.3/current.html Francesco. On Mon, Aug 30, 2010 at 8:17 PM, Malcolm <malcolm_lewis@bellsouth.net> wrote:
