[opensuse] Mozilla Released 52.8.1esr on 6/618 - Will we get update for 42.3
All, A couple of weeks ago, Leap 42.3 jumped to Firefox 60esr despite Leap 42.3 coming with 52 -- which went against the policy of staying with the released version. At the time we were told on this list that was required because there would be no more releases of 52esr. That statement was untrue. On June 6, 2018 Mozilla released 52.8.1esr continuing the 52.8 branch, e.g. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.8.1esr/ Will we get an update for 52.8.1esr in update, since that is the release that 42.3 should be on? -- David C. Also, Wolfgang, Where do you get your sources for building from? The released source on the mozilla site is: firefox-52.8.1esr.source.tar.xz I note in your .spec for 52.8.0 your source was named: firefox-52.8.0-source.tar.xz (no esr and a '-' instead of a '.') Further, when building, your source apparently expands to a 'mozilla' directory while the released source expands to 'firefox-52.8.1esr' (which makes for some fun in tweaking the .spec) Any info you can provide would be appreciated (it's not a trivial .spec and the number of patches are in double digits :) -- David C. They seem to be reasonable questions and deserving of a constructive answer. Perhaps not asked in the best manner but it pays not to take offence easily on the internet. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I see where they come from, the create-tar.sh isn't part of the package itself, it creates preliminary packages hg.mozilla.org that Wolfgang then uses in the build. I think I've got it. And yes, we simply ignore the those trying to spark controversy by picking at 'attitude' or 'tone' or the like... Seems we have picked up a few over the past couple of years. -- David C. I will prepare 52.8.1 packages and they will end up in the mozilla repo at least. I'm not sure they will still hit 42.3 as we already have an update to 60 in there. There was a preliminary agreement that we don't ship a 52.9 anymore. I'm not sure about 52.8.1 though. Especially if anything in the maintenance process would prevent us from doing so.

you found the create-tar.sh script already and there is not much more to say about it. I had to introduce it because to get timely updates out I need to prepare with HG snapshots already. Starting with Firefox 60 we ship detached signed upstream tarballs for most official packages. create-tar.sh will survive because we still need it for langpacks. Wolfgang
Well, the create-tar.sh worked fine. It was just a bit of a head-scratcher at first. Since mozilla puts out the released source, I didn't snap to the fact that create-tar.sh was needed to actually pull the source from the mercurial repo as well as create the l10n tarball. A clone, 7.2G later, 1.6M compare-locales/ 1.6M total 1.7G l10n/ 1.7G total 3.9G mozilla/ 3.9G total and after loading stdin with 100 'q' -- all was well. Yes, it would be a shame it this 52.8.1 just gets dumped in the mozilla repo instead of update. I don't think it would hurt to put it in update. Those that want to make use of it from update, can, and those that don't care which version they use can continue with the 60+ update. The version numbers will take care of themselves. -- David C. Wolfgang, After updating the branched 52.8.0 .spec, and sources to 52.8.1 with the results of the re-tagged create-tar.sh, all built fine for 13.1 - 15 (and tumbleweed) (x86_64 for 13.1 & 13.2 only). You have a heck of a system set up there -- works well -- although it does take a bit to find all the pieces and to determine which mercurial tag is the one to use. Any thought of adding a Readme_build.txt? Thanks for your help and efforts with the mozilla packages. -- David C.
