[SLE] 64+ RAM not recognized
Hello, I'm fortunate that at work, I have SuSE 6.3 installed with 64 MG RAM. Our operator added an additional 32 MG DRAM chip, but it is not being recognized at boot up. The computer boots up with init 2, he checks for RAM, and only 64 is available. I'm not referring to X, as I know that sometimes, the amount of RAM has to be specified XF86Config when greater than 64. Any ideas? On some versions of the kernel, only 64MB are automatically
recognized. What I do is add the following line to /etc/lilo.conf
append="mem=96M"

Hello, Fri, 17 Mar 2000, ÷Ù ÎÁÐÉÓÁÌÉ:

append="mem=96M"
I added this to /etc/lilo.conf and rebooted. Linux still does not see the 96 Mb RAM . Now upon bootup, 96 RAM is recognized in the messages before LILO. So BIOS sees it. I log in as init 2 in the console. Check ram and only 64 is seen. Any ideas? By the way, under chip settings in BIOS, there was some kind of RAM setting for monitor or Windows. It had a choice of 0 32 or 64 and that was it. 64 was selected. Thanks George

Try this: (1) add append="mem=96M" to /etc/lilo.conf (2) Re-run lilo :) (3) Reboot Buddy Coffey Advanced Electromagnetics -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Hello, success! I now have 96 MB. My mistake was not rerunning lilo after editing it. I did /sbin/lilo then rebooted I thought the /etc/lilo.conf file was read automatically at each bootup. George Sun, 26 Mar 2000, ÷Ù ÎÁÐÉÓÁÌÉ:

Make sure that the BIOS option "Memory hole at 16MB" is disabled. That fixed this problem for me. -- [-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- adam j henry =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=] | [http: www.heidelberg.edu/~ahenry] [pgp: 0x92B1EDF5] | | [mailto: ahenry@heidelberg.edu] [icq: 5794025] | [-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=] -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
