Folks, Twice in the last two weeks Netscape 4.72 has locked up my keyboard and mouse (running KDE) requiring a power cycle. For the same reason I quit WinXX I have decided to abandon Netscape rather than put up with this nonsense. I have been playing with Kmail. I can connect to more than one email account, but I have no way of refering to more than one return address. (I plan on both my wife and I using it out of my account). I had been using StarOffice5.1a, which allows multiple accounts AND reply addresses. But, I am running a P166 + 64MB RAM and SO is just to slow loading and unloading. It also has some email peculiarities that I don't like. And, I have ordered Corel Office 2000 Delux and will use it in place of SO, which I am going to remove from my system. My question: (You thought I'd never ask... ;-) Is there a way to supply TWO reply addresses in Kmail. The Kmail docs don't make reference to any way. I thought about making two copies of kmail, with slight name changes, but they still refere to the same configuration files. Try the followings, 1) Start KMail 2) start a new kamil composer as if you want to send a new message. 3) from the composer menu, select VIEW and check REPLY-TO Now you can type in any reply-to address for your new messages. If you save the addresses in the address book, it will be more convenient. Cheers, Wayne Jerry Kreps wrote:

Does kmail have the ability to display web pages that are embedded in email messages? Even ones that use Java? I dislike Netscape Messenger, but the one thing that 's kept me using it is its ability to handle HTML and web pages. I know some folks here have the view that if an email contains any HTML they'll discard it, but that seems counterproductive to me. I can control what I send but I can't control how people send email to me, and throwing out any HTML'd email could cause me to miss some stuff I'd very much want to see. I'm using kmail. So far I've had no problem clicking on URLs contained in email. Kfm opens immediately to that site. Java applets do not fire, however, so you will miss most of the ads. JLK

I get my share of email crap no matter what I do. But sometimes I do get HTML emails that I'm interested in. I think it's counterproductive if, when someone asks whether Linux program X supports feature Y, the answer is that you didn't want Y anyway. I do have her set up with an account of her own. However, she does not want to logout of my account and login to her account. And, I don't want to leave the her account active all day. So, the delimma. SO was a solution but it was too complicated for her (too many buttons, to oblique to operate) and way too slow. "I just want to walk into the office and see if I have mail without doing anything". That necessitates leaving Kmail up all the time. That was no problem. When I got home I'd fire Netscape. Try the following (it worked for me while both of us were traveling with a laptop)... (1) Set up her individual account/login (2) Log on to YOUR account. (3) At the beginning of the day telnet to HER acct and bring up HER kmail window on your screen with "kmail &". (Might have to set xhost) After you get her kmail up on your screen, you can close the telnet session. (4) Minimize her kmail until she needs it, then bring it up and voila! instant access. I thought I knew how to do this, but when I tried I locked my box up. I tried 'telnet june'. Had to power-cycle and fsck some mounts. Something like 'telnet open -a -l june' but I'm just guessing. Beyond using quad numbers I know nothing about telnet. JLK

I don't have fetchmail setup yet, and would like to do so soon: My setup is typical: - pop3 account at my ISP - dialup connection from the SuSE box - a 192.168.x.x local network (Win98 pc) The goal is to have the SuSE box act as my SMTP and POP3 servers for the PC. I still read & write email on the PC. I've got outgoing mail PC -> SuSE sendmail -> my ISP SMTP (smarthost) setup just fine. Now I'm starting the setup of fetchmail. My question: I'd like fetchmail to poll every few minutes while on line, but, say every 60 minutes when off line. I think I can use the fetchmail's -M option to prevent fetchmail's polling from timing out the dialup connection. What I'm unclear on is how to make fetchmail automatically (the important word here) to poll at different rates. Can I simply set fetchmail to poll every few minutes, use the -M option to allow the dialup to timeout, and then use cron to wake it up every hour? If anyone is using this type of setup I'd enjoy seeing an example setup!
