[opensuse] openSUSE 10.2 - can't talk to remote cupsd
Hi everybody. Yesterday evening I upgraded the box I use as a print-server from SuSEPro 10.1 to openSUSE 10.2 and have found that I can no longer print to that system from other devices on my network. Cupsd on the printserver is set to run in runlevels 2, 3 and 5 and is running. a printer is hanging off the parallel port, has been configured and functions properly when jobs are submitted from the server itself. Likewise I can reach the CUPS management page, but only from the server itself (http://localhost:631/,) but I can reach neither cupsd or the CUPS administration page from other hosts on the network. The behavior is the same whether the firewall is on or off. This all worked perfectly under 10.1 and I can't see what's wrong with the setup. Is there someone who might have an idea of what is wrong - or what I might check? aTdHvAaNnKcSe -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER@VISI.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK - IGNORE FULLWISE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

From the release notes: Update Configuration of CUPS (Common UNIX Printing System) The update of CUPS from version 1.1 to 1.2 includes incompatible changes. It is not possible to convert the printer configuration from the previous CUPS versions automatically. Use the YaST printer setup ("Hardware" -> "Printer") to reconfigure the printing system. For reference, check the saved configuration files: /etc/cups/classes.conf.rpmsave /etc/cups/printers.conf.rpmsave HTH, -- Jim Barnes -- Certainly the game is rigged. There's an option in Cup administration to allow remote administration. Has that been enabled? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Since openSUSE 10.2 we use CUPS 1.2 which listens by default only on the local interface via (in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf): -------------------------------------------------------------------- # Only listen for connections from the local machine. Listen localhost:631 Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock -------------------------------------------------------------------- Either add someting like "Listen IP.of.your.server", see http://localhost:631/help/ref-cupsd-conf.html?TOPIC=References&QUERY=#Listen or use YaST via "Other" -> "Change remote access". By the way: It is recommended not to use the outdated cupsd.conf from the CUPS 1.1 installation but to start from sratch with the original cupsd.conf from our CUPS 1.2 RPM.
